If i check disneyworld.com for BCV availability...the exact dates i want and type (studio) are 100% available and ready for booking!

Unfortunately, when trying to rent points, I was told that BCV are sold out for the entire month of August?

Can anyone shed some light? Also, is there any chance that like a normal WDW hotel room someone will cancel and the studio will be available?

It's somewhat of a dream (and an elaborate surprise) for my brother to stay at the BC...if I can get here, It would make his and my dream come true, please help!

There is always a chance that someone will cancel.

Cash reservation availability is no reflection of points room availability. When a member trades points to a location outside of DVC, those rooms become available for cash reservations to offset the cost of the trade. Disny also retains a small percentage of ownership for maintenance issues, but when those rooms are not neded for maintenance, they are also available on cash, not points.

Also, if any dvc rooms are not reserved by members 60 day outm they are turned over to cash reservations, but these rooms can be reclaimed for use by members, if they haven't already been rented for cash.

So with the last sentence in mind, wouldnt that mean the room showing on disneyworld.com would be available to dvc members?

ONLY if it was turned over to cash because it wasn't reserved by a member at 60 days out. If it is a maintance inventory room owned by Disney, or a room turned over because of a member trade, no. Those rooms can not be reclaimed. Also, remember that DVC has an "unsold" inventory of points in stock. Any points that they may have in stock because of reposession or exercising right of first refusal on a sale can also be turned over for cash and not available to members.

If you look at it this way, a member has already booked those rooms you see on the WDW website. However, they traded them out for something else that Disney has, so Disney has to get the money to pay for the trade. You can't book a room twice on points.

So if right now nobody is able to find availability for August 2008 does this mean that if someone cancels their DVC reservation, the room does not become available for points?

The room would become available to a points reservation because a points reservation was canceled, and those points returned to the member account.

That is differet than a cash turnover for a trade. For a trade, in theory, that room is being used by the member, on points. The same as if a member books a room, then rents out the room, to pay cash for a cruise.

But if there is someone on the waitlist with exactly that length of stay and type of lodging, they get it. So it won't go to anyone who calls that morning.

BCV is usually possible in August but at or around the 7 month mark. We usually have luck with that, but I know a few weeks ago there was little if any availability--a random weekend day here and there.

Oh I see, darn :( Well now I have 2 options: try for July or decide if its worth the $$$$$$$$$ to book through Disney.. Thanks everyone!

WOW!!
i just read your christmas trip report ~ the photos & your storytelling are wonderful!!!
yes, you absolutely, positively do need to take david to the BC/BCV (& get the DDP;) ).
is there any way you could go mid to late sept, when it's less crowded? (after labor day, but before the F&WF) . or perhaps see about a split trip (not sure how long you're going for), & doing a mod for the 1st half & surprising him with the BC for the second half (and/or hoping for free dining ~ which looks likely).

tossing lots of pixie dust your way pixiedust:

ETA: try calling CRO to see if there are any codes (discounts) attached to your name. that's apparently how a number of ppl on the resort board are getting discounts. hth:)

Aw thanks for the sweet comments and advice! I called CRO and even without the discount, I booked BC for august! We're gonna do a split stay, but David will not know about the BC until the day we get there :)

I'll most likely be doing a Pre-Trip report.
