Hello - My wife and I have been to WDW 6 times since 1994....definitely wish we would have purchased back then....didn't get serious about it until last time and even then we didn't make a decision while we were down there. Now we are going back in September, so I called our Guide and she can't answer anything via telephone because we're from Nebraska. What she did have me do is make reservations at BCV for our length of stay and said we could meet right away before we check-in and get the deal going and switch the reservation to points.....

Does this sound familiar to any of you? I'm a little concerned about BCV selling out before Sept, but she said that wouldn't happen....

Any idea on what use month we will have if we don't close until Sept?

Any advise would be appreciated....this forum has proved itself to be very valuable....

I was told by my guide that BCV would probably be gone by August.

Maybe someone else will have a better answer for you.

If you wait to buy in Sept., I don't think you would still close in Sept.

Sorry I can't be of more help but I am sure that someone can answer your questions.

Will you pay what points cost now or what they may cost in Sept.?

Someone else on this board must have had a similar experience with this, but I do know that once you make a deposit and it's in Disney's hands, they put the points in an account in your name. What she has in effect done is make a reservation for you that you will use with the points you are purchasing. If there's a reservation in your name using points....then those points would have to have been reserved for you. If you get a confirmation letter regarding the reservation....then you'll know it's really happening...but I doubt they could confirm a reservation on points for which you paid. Man this is complicated.

You also will be staying on points before you close (unless you pay cash).....which is a little risky....but it sounds like Disney's taking some of the risk. I would still call and see if you can get a bit more info on how the process might work...even though she can't answer specific questions.

Actually, she had us make a cash reservation and said she would convert it to points after we get down there....so I'm kind of going out on a limb reserving a BCV room for 7 nights ($2200), but I guess I have to trust her that she will have points for BCV yet when we arrive....maybe they mark them as "sold" when they know we have made our reservation....who knows....hopefully all will go well....thanks for the info....

I would still check into this a little further.

Someone here should know how this works.

What if BCV sells out before you get there?

Did they "hold" the pts for you?

Please let us know what you find out.

jwscls6768,

We are doing something similiar. Because we are in California, there is a limitation on the number of points timeshares can sell for any one time period. We will be purchasing in Vero Beach, but are unable to do so over the phone. So we arranged a trip in September. Buy sending a deposit in the amount of the stay at BCV (in this case 7 days), our guide was able to secure our reservations at BCV for those days (I was actually quite surprised there was still room available there with only 2 months left).

Any time during our stay, since the room is already paid for, we can go down to the DVC office and make our purchase. Our complete deposit will then be credited toward our Purchase price.

We already have our member number, and our points assigned to us, so there is no chance that Vero Beach would sell out before we get there. I have even called member services and made a couple of requests and a change in our ressie, so I know we are in the system.

I guess the difference in your case is that you haven't paid the deposit equaling the total for the lenght of your stay. So I don't know If you are "in the system", in other words if your points have already been assigned to you or will that happen when you get there.

You should probably find out what guarantee there is on availabilty at BCV in Sept.

PM me if you have any additional questions regarding our transaction.

Gabe

I am a bit sceptical. Cash rooms and point rooms are in two different inventory systems, and are managed by TWO diferrent systems. Cash rooms are managed by the CRO and point rooms are managed by MS.

I'd double check before making this commitment based upon a on-site conversion. Ask to talk to her supervisor to get a second opinion.

We did this with our VWL purchase a few years ago. We had a cash reservation and after staying for two nihgts, we went on the tour. Told our Guide we would buy but wanted to switch the rest of the trip to points and use what we would have spent on the room as a down payment. It took a few phone calls and it was explained that this is difficult to make happen, but they did.

It ended up being two nights on cash and four on points.

I'm glad to hear it could be done. It sounds as difficult as my explaination discribes it to be. BUt, I am am glad it can be done.

Thanks everyone for all of the valuable information....this site is great and so are the members.....take care....

Thank you so much...I think you may have solved our problem!!We can't buy over the phone here in Nova Scotia either - we have to go to Florida...my husband was going to fly down and purchase, but then my name wouldn't be on the deed (we would have to do a power of attorney - and he would go to Disney WITHOUT ME!!!Not gonna happen! ;)) For the two of us to fly down it would be $1600...less $ for down payment!!AARGGH...so we thought we would just book another trip with the kids, stay at AllStars or rent points, and buy then...again more $$ that couldn't go toward a contract...but if we could do this....thank you!!!! Definitely could be a happy Disney Day!!!!:Pinkbounc :bounce:

Due to the complexity of this type of transaction, I would urge everyone to speak to a DVC supervisor PRIOR to going down and doing this. Again, I am not saying it can't be done. But I feel it is in everyones' interest to inform a DVC supervisor of your intentions, and have them line up their paperwork in order to accomodate your moves.

Keep in mind, it seems that the underlying assumption is that there are DVC rooms available to accomodate your stay once you are there and make your purchase. That may not be the case without first talking to a DVC supervisor.

Good luck

I agree with DVCDAVE. Speak to a supervisor prior to going.

Although it worked out for my family, I often wondered if it happened because there were DVC rooms available or if they actually were able to switch a CRO room back to points. If I had known then, what I know now, I would have asked. At the time I had no idea of the difference.

It was during Presidents' Week that I was there in 2001 and the place was packed, but my theory is that maybe it was a matter of releasing rooms from the developers inventory as opposed to a CRO room. That could have allowed for it to happen the way it did.
