Ok, I found my notes from the DVC OKW meeting. Here they are in the order that I wrote them down:
After the meeting I asked George Aguel (President and Director of DVC Condo Association) about pool hopping. His answer was vague. He cited that pool hopping was never a guarenteed benefit of DVC. He gave me the spiel about "people paying to stay in a deluxe resort only to find the pool full of guests who did not pay to stay there". I nodded my head and asked him if he thought that it was the DVC members who were really the source of this problem, or if it were the "locals" or the folks from other resorts who were the real problem and if it were just easier to pick on the DVC members as a group. No answer. But at least I planted the seed (again).
I sat next to a couple who have been to the meetings for the past 5 years. They commented on the fact that DVC seems to have gone frugal on this particular meeting in that there were no giveaways except for the free coffee. I guess that's OK. I'd rather the money be spent on the resort and not on pastries.
The major appliances (washers, dryers, dishwashers, microwaves) at OKW are being replaced this year. The outside painting of phases 1 and 2 is being or has been completed. They are going to do interior painting of all phase 1 and 2 units in 2002. The refrigerators are not scheduled to be replaced until sometime after 2002.
Sorry for all the confusion on the opening date of BCV. I guess that's why I took notes.
- At OKW there has been an average 1.8% annual dues increase
- Dues at OKW have been flat for 5 years (no increase)
- Dues at OKW will increase 2.8% this year
- OKW took out too much property tax last year - we will get about 3% back
- December 20th is the 10th anniversary of OKW (and DVC)
- There are 60,000 member families
- Beach Club Villa sales will begin this winter
- Beach Club Villas will open in September 2002
- The name for the DVC resort at Eagle Pines has not been decided
- There will be 600 units at Eagle Pines - including Grand Villas
- Eagle Pines is free standing like OKW
- Members get Amex White Glove treatment at Downtown Disney
- On average 6% of OKW rooms are turned over to CRO at 60 days
- Of those rooms, 75% are Friday or Saturday night rooms
