BCV,BWV, OKW: elevators? What room req. for person w/ECV (or wheelchair)?

Thinking of booking BCV, BWV or an OKW villa (1 bedroom), do ALL of these resorts have ELEVATORS or do I need to request a certain villa (ground floor?) if I have a person with us that has an ECV (scooter) that needs to be driven in at night and plugged in for recharging?

OKW only has a couple of new buildings with elevators, but if you request handicaped accesible, you should be all right. Make it your first request and state it is for medical reasons.

We stayed in OKW in an accessible-room studio. (4810, if you care, I don't know if the adjoining 1-BR is also accessible.) It even had a level walk-in shower. (I know my Grama would have loved it -- she can't step into a tub any more.)

Even if you stay at a resort with elevators, I'd request a handicap room. Doors tend to be wider on handicap rooms and depending upon the size of the ECV you may need the extra width.

Also, if you stay in a DVC handicap unit, the entire unit will be handicap. In a 2-br you won't have 1 bedroom handicap and the other not.

We just returned from OKW and stayed in a handicap accessible 1 BR. Villa 2615. All you need to do is ask for a wheelchair accessible room and they will confirm it. I would recommend OKW if the ECV user uses the ECV inside the villa. The size of the unit makes it a lot easier that the comparable BWV or VWL.
I have an ECV and use it inside the villa and charge it every night.

My friend needs the ECV for fatigue issues (she has lupus). So we really don't need a villa that is fully handicapped accessible, we just need one that we can get the ECV into.

Since I have my heart set on a Beach Club villa and I'm concerned about availability and I can't book yet till late June, I want to be flexible about "the type of unit we can accept" .

So, still I'm wondering, will there be elevators at the new Beach Club Villas? (my first choice)

Board Walk has elevators , doesn't it? (my second choice- standard view)

and OKW, I just have to make sure I either get a building with an elevator OR request ground floor, is this correct? (and third choice)

You are correct about OKW, request ground fllor or bldgs with elevatior(there are only 3). And BWV and BCV and also WLV all have elevators.

I would suggest you talk to Member Services & explain to the CM what you need. They will make a note in your reservation. I have never had a problem with my requests when making a DVC reservation. Have fun on your trip!

Be very specific about your request and let them know it is for medical reasons. My mom made her request to be near the elevator at both VWL & BWV for our trip 2 weeks ago. She has terminal cancer, is undergoing chemo and cannot walk much at all. At both resorts she and my dad were put in rooms very far away from the elevators. I don't think she emphasized how important her need was when she made her request, because she hates to make a big to-do about her condition. Luckily, they were able to move her. So definitely mention that it's for medical reasons.

If you don't want a handi room but need access for the ECV you don't really need to make any special request at BWV or BCV. They both have elevators. I would just mention that you will have an ECV. At OKW request a first floor for medical reasonstell them you will have an ECV but tell them you don't need a handi room. When you get your confirmation letter check the request section to be sure it is noted.
