The way I look at use year importance is this:
My use year is August. I like that month because I would never travel in the two months prior to my use year anyway (too hot!). Normally if you book, for example, a trip using points a month before your use year month and you have to cancel, you must be able to travel before your use year comes up or you will forfeit those points. Does that make sense? Because I know I most likely would not travel in July, for example, I don't need to worry about it so much. If you always book in July though and your use year is August, and something came up and you had to cancel your trip...if you did not use those points before August, you'd lose them all.
That's how I look at use year. To me that's the only importance of it.
I hope that helps! I'm terrible at explaining things

Perhaps I have been going merrily along, not concerned about my use year, as it has not affected me thus far(I think!!), but can someone explain the ins and outs of "use year" importantance?
Thank you, as always for the expert info.
