Hi there,

I recently checked my reservation for my stay at BCV coming up and now it says I am staying in an accessible studio- I was hoping for some guidance.

1. Will this be ok for my toddler and infant girls? The reservation says with tub but all pictures I have found online only show a roll-in shower. not sure how I can get them clean without trashing the place if there's no tub.

2. Is the counter space from the vanity gone? We usually have bottles and sippy cups taking up that entire counter.

3. Is the closet shelf as low as it looks? I can just imagine them tearing down the clothes multiple times a day.

Is there any possibility at this point of being able to switch out of it or is this pretty much a foregone conclusion? Any suggestions/ info would be greatly appreciated!

I have not been in a BCV accessible studio but allears has photos of one on the page in this link.

It's the decor before they went to triple sheeting on the bed so ignore that but you can see the layout. AFAIK the only HA studio at WDW that has a tub along with a roll in shower is BLT, although I suspect Poly may have something similar. But at BCV if you have a fully accessible room with a roll in shower then there will not be a tub. If that is an issue then you can try and get the room switched at check in. I believe that the room assignor probably had an accessible studio to assign and you were the lucky chosen ones so because the reservation has gone to the hotel I doubt MS could help which is why I suggest trying to change at check in.

We just stayed in a HA studio at BCV with a tub. When booking HA rooms, you can choose either a tub with grab bars & hand held shower head or the roll-in shower. I prefer the tub & bring my own shower chair. If the reservation says it has a tub, there should be one.

The room we had didn't have a closet, just drawers under the TV & some space for hanging clothes built in on either side of the TV. We were able to get a weeks worth of clothes for 2 in one side with no problem. The other side was pretty full with a portable crib & iron. The empty space where the closet normally is helps with getting wheelchairs & scooters through the doorway but will be useful for strollers too.

I've never stayed in a non HA room at BCV so I don't know how they compare, but there was no storage at all in the bathroom of the HA room. Just a very narrow shelf above the sink. It worked OK for me since I need to sit while doing hair & make-up so I use the table in the living area...there's a mirror above the table. I can't imagine trying to do that in the bathroom with no place to put anything. That shelf is barely wide enough for a tube of toothpaste. There was no towel bar near the tub...they're clear across the room. I wondered whose bright idea that was. I had my walker to put a towel on, but my husband had to lay his in the sink.

We love the BCV & the location, but I'm hoping after the remodel some improvements are made to the HA bathrooms. I think you'll be fine with the tub, the hand held sprayer may even be nice for bathing kids & there's lots of room in the bathroom. Just bring one of those hanging things with pockets for toiletry items since there's no storage. My daughter has 3 small children & she brings so much stuff for them, she just packs it in the hanging thing...all she has to do is hang it up. You will have some counter space & shelves in the kitchenette. Maybe you'll get a remodeled room & it may have some improvements. Enjoy your trip...wish I was there again.

Thanks for your help & all of the info! Just what I was looking for! After your post, I'm kind of warming up to the idea of having room to get the stroller through :) that's always a challenge for my double wide!

Thank you so much for the reply! :)

I was just wondering about how you knew you were going to stay in an accessible studio. Did you somehow see it on the DVCMember page? We've been given accessible studios several times and didn't know until we got there. I even asked at the front desk once "Is that a Handicapped accessible studio?" (I'd gotten one so many times!) and I was told "No". The front desk manager later tried to tell me that even the front desk doesn't know. Boy, I'd love a way to be sure beforehand!

I noticed it on my reservation online shortly before I was due to arrive.

I am a magnet for those rooms. Some of them are okay; others make you feel as if you've checked into a hospital.

In March 2012 I stayed in a BCV studio which I booked through CRO. When I checked in (not online) I asked if it was handicapped accessible. They said yes. I was not happy because I was afraid it would be a roll-in-shower which is not ideal if you don't need it. They said if I wasn't happy they might be able to move me the next day. That would have been too inconvenient, so I stayed where they assigned me. Here are some pictures:

It was NOT a roll-in shower. It was a tub with grab bars.

Note the lack of counter and shelf space in the bathroom.

You could leave wheelchair or stroller in this area, assuming it's deep enough.

Note the "pocket door" for the bathroom. If you think you're going to hang something over the door (like one of those shoebag things with compartments) you won't be able to keep it on the door.

The bathroom has lots of floor space but no storage space.

That's the same as the room we stayed in. It's strange that the ones with roll in showers are so different than the ones with tubs. I forgot about the sliding door...maybe one of the hanging storage things could be hung on one of the robe hooks by the sink. There was a high one & a lower one. Are the regular BCV studio bathrooms so lacking in storage too?
