I'm considering trying to snag a Beach Club 2Br for our Jan trip next year but I am a little baffled by their three different room categories for the 2 Br. I saw a 2Br with 2 queen beds... does anyone know how that compares to a lockoff? We'll be traveling with my parents and POSSIBLY my sister and BIL as well as our three infants. Is the 2 queen version preferable, or would a lockoff give my parents more space?

The 3 choices are:

1. Dedicated with 2 queens in the second bedroom
2. Dedicated with 1 queen/1 double sofabed in the second bedroom
3. Lockoff - 1 bedroom + studio. The studio will have 1 queen/1 double sofabed, kitchenette, separate entrance.

The Dedicated will only have 1 entrance, no kitchenette in the second bedroom.

How many people will be sleeping in the second bedroom? If more than just your parents, you probably want the 2 queens. All choices will have a queen sofabed in the living room.

We'll definitely have 2 adults in each bedroom, and I was planning on having the 2 2.5 yr olds and the 6 mo old sleep in the main room (or the 6 mo old will sleep in our bedroom), with my parents in the other room. My sister and BIL have not committed and will not until the last minute if they do, so I don't want to book around them--however if the two queen option cuts too much into the studio space of the second bedroom, perhaps I should just go with the lockoff.

The two queens don't make any difference to the amount of space you have

I'd go with whatever's available, or more likely to come through on a waitlist.

You're not guaranteed to get that room type even if you book. Our last 2 times at BVC I booked the 2q beds but got a lock off in the fall and a standard 2 bedroom in the spring. Both were in 2013.

Since they are booking categories, you are supposed to get what you booked. If not and it's not due to a maintenance issue, the error needs to be reported to DVC so that they can look into the room assignment errors.

I agree. I have always gotten exactly what I have booked at BCV.

How do you find out if it's a maintenance issue or overbooking? When I call the front desk, all they said was "there's nothing else available". We also checked in around 11am, but didn't get a room til 4pm, so it's not a matter of late check in. Didn't even think to email DVC, I'll remember that next time.

You mention next Jan but not when in that month. If very early Jan (like 1 or 2) or the Thursday through Sun of marathon weekend (Jan 8-11), you are likely to have issues getting anything at BCV at 7 months out. Otherwise chances are good. As to 2BRs, the lock-offs (because they can also be reserved as studios and 1BRs) and the two queens 2BRs tend to fill before the dedicated 2BRs with queen and pull out double couch in the second bedroom. The second bedroom does, obviously, have less space to manuever when you have the two queens rather than the couch before it is pulled out. However, you get somewhat more space in the second bedroom in the dedicateds because there is no mini-kitchen or exit door area.

Last visit we were in a 2 queen 2BR. They are all located at the ends of hallways. MIL complained the whole trip how far away they are from the lobby!
Next trip she stays home:rotfl2:

We have always gotten exactly what we book. These are booking categories not room requests. Disney won't guarantee a request but they will a booking category.

Not all 2 queen 2BR are located at the ends of the hallways. 233,333,433 are relatively close to the elevator that goes to the lobby. 307, 323,& 324 may be even closer. But..... if you don't want your MIL to know, my lips are sealed!!:rolleyes1 If you go to parkinfo2go.com, there is a great BCV floorplan map for each floor.
