BC/YC vs Poly

Can anyone tell me how the rooms compare? We stayed at the Poly recently and were not impressed with our room. Lots of accumulated dirt in the corners, chipped paint, big gash in one wall. I know the Poly is old and in need of updating, but I really don't know how long it's been since BC/YC rooms were refurbished. Can I expect to find a nicer room?

I'm not sure of when the BC was last remodeled, but we stayed there in Summer of 2011 and were upgraded to CL. That being said, our room was very musty and had a moldy/mildew smell in the entire room and bathroom. I called about the smell and they came and sprayed it with a solution (basically Febreeze) We had to keep our room freezing cold so that the smell didn't come back. Not sure if this is the norm thereor if our room just wasted used in a while, but it was definitely a dated room. I think there are always chances of getting an older room or a lackluster Housekeeper.

Good Luck with your choice.

I believe all of the Epcot resorts were last rennovated in 2009.

I much prefer BC over the Poly. We were there (BC) last January & our room was perfect, updated and very clean.

I don't think the rooms at the poly are as nice but they did seem much larger, don't know if that is a consideration for you.

If you check out the photo threads for each resort you'll likely get a better idea of what the rooms look like & which one you find more appealing.

Also, Allears.net has room/resort pics.

I agree with the PP to check the resort threads -- the room photos there may help you out.

We stayed at the BC in 2010 right after the renovation, and our room was very nice. We also stayed at the Poly on that trip. The room was older, but still nice.

As far as dust and dirt in the corners, it's unfortunate but you can find that at any WDW IMO.

The YC rooms were redone right after the BC, so I suppose they are "fresher" but not by much.

The Poly rooms are larger, darker in color scheme, and have nice big balconies (most of them do). The YC/BC rooms are smaller, brighter, and have smaller balconies. IMO it's mostly a matter of personal preference as to the rooms. As for the resort, the YC/BC pool is much larger than the Poly's.

only go to the new resorts - AoA will open shortly - so you might like it.

the maids/housekeepers are not allowed enough time to give the rooms a through cleaning.

We've stayed at both and our preference between the two is the Poly. We love the Poly more than the BC for many reasons, with two of them being the Poly rooms are MUCH larger and all rooms come with a daybed (which has to be requested and is not guaranteed at the BC, unless there are 5 people in the room). Both resorts are beautiful and are in great locations depending on which park(s) you will frequent the most, but we prefer the Poly :).

I had looked at photo threads before we stayed at the Poly, so I knew what the decor was like and knew what to expect. It was just the wear and neglect, as well as accumulated dirt and grime, that surprised me. Other than the room, we loved the Poly resort, and I'm sure we would love BC as well, but I'm hoping the rooms look newer/cleaner. Thanks Spiceycat, maybe we'll try AoA, although Stormalong Bay is still an enticement.

The BC rooms are definitely newer than the ones at the Poly. I've read that the Poly is due for some renovations, so some of the rooms may look tired (although we definitely did not have that problem last time we were there). If you want SAB, give YC or BC a try. The rooms are only a couple of years old.

We have stayed at both the BC and Poly and we liked the BC much better than the Poly. The whole place is just so much brighter than the Poly and the rooms have been recently rehabed since they were still working on it when we were there last year. We will be going to the YC for the first time in two weeks and will be returning to the BC in Aug. When we were at the BC last year we didn't have any trouble with the cleanliness of the room and it was very well cleaned every day. The cleanliness of the room is a big thing for me so if there was anything wrong I would have contacted housekeeping to come and fix it but that was never necessary the whole trip. I don't think you would be disappointed with any of the Epcot Resorts and it is probably the best area to stay at. After our stay at the YC we will have stayed at all of the Epcot Resorts (Disney owned that is) and this is by far our favorite area. We have also stayed at all of the resorts on the monorail near MK and the GF is the only one that I would go back to but even the GF takes a backseat to the Epcot Resorts since for us the location is great.

We just came back from the BCV and all I can say is wow...can't wait to go back there on our next trip. Room was absolutely beautiful...the resort was amazing...and there is no way the Poly pools beat the Stormalong Bay at the BC! :)

For us, it was no contest. YC won hands down for cleanliness and "freshness". I actually found a previous guest's nasty left over food in our Poly fridge, the carpet turned our socks black, the sink was cracked...just yuck! We weren't overly impressed the 1st time we did the Poly, but when we did our 2d trip with a split stay we were so disappointed we moved from the YC to the Poly..we will never go back.

You didn't say if you had kids? If so, BC and if not YC. BC has more options with the store for some quick meals. But both have access to SAB which is the best pool on property, IMO.

Plus both are within walking distance to 2 parks (Epcot/Studios).

DD will be 13 on our next trip, so either YC or BC would probably be fine. I'm thinking YC to be sure of getting a balcony. Really hoping we have a better experience than what we had at the Poly, as another grimy room would probably turn me off from WDW properties. Thanks for all the feedback!

I have stayed at both mulitple times and have never had a bad experience at either one. I don't walk through the rooms with a white glove or inspect the corners. I'm just not that fussy. I think the room conditions are similar at Poly/Yc/ and BC. I think you can get a bad room anywhere.

I've stayed at both the Beach Club and the Polynesian. I would agree with these sentiments. :)

No white gloves necessary. You couldn't miss the filth. I guess we just have different standards. I've stayed in basic, dated but CLEAN rooms on military bases. The Poly could learn something from their housekeeping services.

I've always had clean rooms at the Poly, and my standards aren't that low. I do have a house cleaner that cleans my house every week.:confused3 I'm sorry you had a bad experience there. I hope your stay at BC or Yc is better.

YC is a great choice if you don't want to worry about getting a balcony or not. We've been staying there with our DD since she was 2 years old -- it's plenty nice for kids. BC is nice, too.

YC for sure. For me, the fact that the decor is just lighter means it feels cleaner to me. I love YC because it is quieter than BC. You still get the awesome pool, get to walk to the parks, but not have some of the craziness of the BC lobby with Cape May. The Poly just feels old to me. If it weren't on the monorail, I don't think I would consider it again. Rooms were big though. BUt we also like everything in one building, so I don't have to walk in the rain to get my mug refilled! DS9 prefers the Epcot area too.
