BC Scaffolding updates?

Thanks to all who posted about the BC renovation work going on. I called the BC front desk and they confirmed that the work will still be going on during our trip next month, so I called CRO and switched to the Yacht Club. We'll still eat at Cape May though. Were off to Disneyland tonight for 2 days. When we get back it will almost be time to start packing for WDW!

Just returned from our Disney trip last night and stayed at the BC 8/6-10. When I went into our room first thing I wanted to check for was if we had a full balcony, which we did not. When I saw the scaffolding over our room (our room was right over the water side of the lobby entrance) I said kids don't move; we're going to change rooms. I immediately went back to the check-in desk again and was told there were no rooms available; they were totally booked (we checked-in very early) and the scaffolding was for painting and was not noisy. Well low and behold the next morning, 8 a.m. sharp, I was rudely awaken to the sound of scaffolding piping clinging LOUDLY! (which I wondered why becauase the scaffolding was already up!) After my "alarm clock" I looked out the window and the workers were sitting there having coffee/breakfast! I was not happy, but figured at least I didn't have the white sheeting over our windows! I would have insisted on being moved if that were the case! Our room location was great; I had faxed a room request (my first time doing so!) and got the view I requested. Be very careful what you wish for-ha-ha!. I had no idea the scaffolding was up before we left. I spoke to another family and asked if they were under the white sheeting but they said they overlooked a white roof. They went to the front desk to request to be moved and was also told the resort was full (that seemed to be the phrase at this hotel!) and at least they had a full balcony so they should be happy! This family stays at the BC every year in a standard room and have never had a bad view. They were not happy. I looked at it this way; someone had to have these rooms. At least we were in Disney and got the view we requested. We're not in the rooms that much, and being so close to the lobby was a plus for us! I think the mousekeeping was more of a problem than the scaffolding! We had candy all over the bathroom floor, a bandaid stuck on the bathroom floor, whole shelled peanuts along the wall by the drapes/windows, and a piece of tissue with a blood stain on it (think when you nick your legs shaving and put a piece of tissue on it! sorry-gross!) between the bathroom/sink area, and papers from a previous guest's land/sea stay in the closet on the shelf. I felt this was a neglected room, especially for a deluxe! I feel like we got the bottom of the draw on rooms at the BC! Oh well-it didn't hamper our trip at all and that's what counts! I sure was wishing we booked YC though! We read the BC has many more kids, however, we went to the YC lobby and it was filled, I mean filled, with teens from some sort of group trip. It seemed fun and lively, not at all what I pictured! And we could have gotten a full balcony! Oh well-next time!;)

mimmiemom...did you see what the scafolding was up for...repairs or painting???? Did you hear anyone mentioning how long it would be up...we are not due to go until Oct, but we changed to the BC from POR-Riverside because we did not want to be bothered by construction etc !!!!!!!

>>^..^<<,

I just wanted to say that I hope you have power and are able to get to Florida on time. :(

Please enjoy your trip. Can't wait to hear all about it.

Thanks floridafam :)

It is really a pain - I had so many things to do today at the office as I am away for over 2 weeks starting tomorrow... now I can't get there...

I want to do laundry - but I now I should be conserving energy - but I need to pack!!

On the bright side.. if I can't get out tomorrow... it is Universal I am missing :) Not Disney

I didn't think you were going to reply.

Glad to hear mos everything is alright.

Have fun.

MinnieMom,
Did you pay regualar rate and get that room? About 4 years ago when there was construction rehab going on at the Yacht Club, we reserved a "Limited View" room that was supposed to have scaffolding. They offered it for an unbelieveble $69.00. For that price we were expecting it to not be so good, but if I paid regular price, I probably would have asked to have been moved to the Yacht or Boardwalk. And BTW, our room ended up having no scaffolding what so ever.

Hi everyone. Now, I am starting to get really worried about the construction work at BC. We leave in four days for our first stay at BC. My family has been soooooooo excited about staying at this beautiful hotel and now I feel so bad because I choose BC, after researching a few hotels. We have not stayed at a deluxe in over ten years so we were really excited about this trip. To all of us that will be there soon, lets just hope it is not too much of an eye sore or too noisy. Oh I do hope not. Minniemmom, being woken up by construction noises and seeing workers right outside your balcony view must not have been fun at all. I am sorry to hear that. I just hope all these 'repairs' don't totally spoil the overall 'beauty' of the resort. To everyone going soon, Have fun and let us all wish for great trip reports.:)

disgirl-thanks for your reply! It was not fun being woken up, but the funny thing is that was the only noise because it was painting they are doing. Their initial "set-up" noise was all we heard, but it was loud enough to wake us each day. Oh well. The room location was great though! The resort has to be refurbished from time to time, so I'm sure it will look beautiful when all the scaffolding and white sheeting comes down. At least you are aware of the construction. I had no idea before we left. I would definitely insist on a room without it. Have a great time!

GeorgeY-We had the room with an AP discount. Still a lot of money for that room all things considered. That was an awsome deal you got! When I went back down to the check-in desk, they just said they were full and that's all that was available, unless I wanted to come back the next day but even that didn't look too good. It just doesn't feel like Disney goes the extra mile anymore, at least not in our experiences. :(

I'm at the Beach Club right now, and have to say that the scaffolding & exterior refurb is not too bad, at all. I arrived Sunday Aug 17, and am staying thru Tues Aug 26.

The lakefront entrance court ("Cannae Court" ?) has scaffolding, as does the lake view courtyard with the volleyball court. The Quiet Pool and Stormalong Bay are completely unaffected.

My own room, # 2608, has a full balcony and looks out over a very nice lawn & courtyard between the Beach Club resort and BC Villas (I am opposite side side from the scaffolding). I am a very light sleeper, and haven't noticed any construction noise.

Additionally, when I first booked the room 2-3 weeks ago, I asked the CRO agent for their "best rate" and got $179 + tax ! That's as low as I've ever paid in 8 years, and I didn't need any special code to get it.

All in all, I'm mostly happy with my current stay at the BC.

I'm a bit annoyed that Beaches & Cream isn't serving breakfasts anymore ... they have croissants/rolls/ etc in the small Riptide Lounge, but the overall selection is poor compared to what Beaches & Cream used to offer. Once I just walked across to the Boardwalk Bakery instead ...

Tom h, thanks for the info. I'm so jealous of your rate - we booked the FTP so we wouldn't have to pay rack rate for our upcoming trip! Question - is yours a standard room? Is it in the wing by the quiet pool? We are both light sleepers also and want a full balcony, and we booked a standard. I'm going to put in a request to the room assigner before we go, trying to decide a location to ask for.
One more question - is there morning coffee anywhere, or should we just request a coffee maker in the room? Thanks!! Enjoy the rest of your stay!

k9pal,
My room (#2608) is a "standard" view, and as mentioned, the courtyard view across to the Beach Club Villas is quite nice. I'm about halfway between the 2 extreme ends of the hotel. I'm a bit closer to the Quiet pool than to the Stormalong Bay pool.

The Riptide Lounge serves coffee & espresso in the morning, so you don't really need an in-room coffee maker unless you HAVE to have coffee mere seconds after waking up!

Another suggestion on rooms -- ask the BC's Room Assignment person for NO "roof top view" rooms. There are a few very bad rooms that literally look out onto the roof and nothing else. Very unpleasant. A few years ago I was assigned to a "roof" room, and I immediately marched right back to the front desk for another room.

Just back, the sacffolding is all around the entrance from the boardwalk area, with construction boards surrounding the steps. Much activity going on there, screeening was going up and different areas were gettting the scaffolding.

Does anyone know when this is going to be finished?? I have reservations for the 2nd week of December.

Not sure when it will be finished but I was just there yesterday and it was still up. Sorry.

Just had to say how much I love the photo of your beautiful daughter!! I'm on my way to your site right now!! Thanks!

FYI

Just called the Beach Club directly about the scaffolding and our December trip. They are replacing the siding and the CM said that they are doing a section at a time and the area they are working on would be closed off. She also said that it is unlikely the replacement would be done by our December trip, but she kept emphasizing that it would not effect our stay.

Just back last night, stayed the previous 3 nights at the Yacht Club. Work is still going on at the Beach Club, with a large area covered by scaffolding and construction walls. To be honest, I am glad we changed or reservation to the Yacht Club. I just wouldn't want to spend a much-anticipated (and expensive) vacation at a construction site. There was no discernable noise from the project, but it sure was an eyesore IMHO.

Come on now! We complain when something shows wear, and then when they do something about it, we complain about the scaffolding.

When a road gets rough we complain, then when they close it for repair we complain about traffic.

Put me behind the scaffold, charge me half the rate, and I'll be happy. We're never in the room anyway.

But please! let me know if the pool(SAB) is closed, before I come next summer.
