Based on my understanding of the situation, your ability to get a specific view, room, etc. is no different than it ever was - if it's available at check-in, you'll get it. If not, oh well. There is a lot of inventory here and not everybody can get the "best" rooms.
The only thing that has changed is that WBC is now officially not taking requests over the phone unless you are a "premium" owner (don't recall the term they use for that level of ownership). If you've read these threads at all, you know that a request was never a guarantee. Sounds to me like WBC is taking a reasonable step to lessen the phone calls their staff was dealing with, and more importantly, manage guest expectations. You can't be upset about not getting something you never (thought you) had.
