BC or monorail for 1st trip with children?

DH and I are planning our first trip with children, 18 month old twins for next October. We always stay at the BC and we love it. We would really miss it, but I'm wondering if it is really necessary to stay on the monorail.

For those that haven't stayed on the monorail did you wish you did?

I think since you're kids will be that young, having the Monorail will be a huge plus.

Must agree - with little ones you'll probably spend more time at the MK, but if not, it is so easy to get to EPCOT on the monorail. It will be so much more relaxing.

If you usually use the buses, you'll be amazed how much easier it will be with little ones staying at a MK monorail resort. Even if you rent a car, driving to MK is complicated with a car.

I would stay at the Polynesian. You can take the boat, or monorail, to the MK. YOu can walk to the TTC via the pathway and hop on the monorail to Epcot.
But, I love the Epcot resorts...love just walking in the back door, so to speak.

This is pretty much the same question I asked a while back. DH and I Love the YC and AKL but now we have our little girl who will be 21 months when we go to WDW. We were wondering the same thing as you.
After lots of reading on here, talking to people and each other we decided the best thing to do would be to try the Poly.
We will be in MK most of our time.. we are only going to Ecpot one evening and then MGM one evening.

The poly does not have the theme that I like (We lOVE YC and DH really like AKL) but I've warmed up to it looking on here and I know we should try a new resort and I will hopefully love that we are on the monorail.
If I were you I would try the monorail resorts. Who knows... may turn into a favorite

With 18 month old, you more than likely will spend more time at MK. The monorail makes it easier to get to. We stay at the Boardwalk and usually cut through Epcot to take the monorail. That would become difficult with 2 little ones. I think you should decide what park you will spend the most time in, and go with that resort. The monorail does make it so much easier.

We took our twins at 22 month and stayed at the BC. It worked out well for us since we went to MK, AK, & Studios in the mornings and wandered to Epcot nearly every night. The kids loved all the live entertainment!

I would go for a monorail resort with an 18 month old. I've also seen other posts about the BC pool being hard to navigate with little ones, can't see them at all times, easy for them to wander from you. We love the Epcot area resorts, but our "little" one is now 11.

Here is a test for the OP to see if staying at a monorail resort is worth it:

1. Wait until the 2 toddlers are good and tired (sleeping in their stroller(s) would be better.

2. Stroll to a nearby bus stop. Pick up the sleeping twins and fold the stroller(s) when the bus arrives.

3. Board the bus holding the tired / sleeping toddlers and do not take a seat. Rather stand for a 20 minute trip.

4. Return home and think about rolling the stroller(s) holding the tired / sleeping toddlers onto the monorail. Think about rolling the stroller off the monorail and all the way to your room once you reach your resort (I recommend the Polynesian). Imagine lifting your still sleeping children out of the stroller and into their bed. It should now be clear that if a monorail resort is an option then the decision is a no-brainer!

We loved the Beach Club, but I think if I had two stroller-aged kids, I'd want to be on the monorail! The Polynesian would be my top choice, because you could get right on the Epcot monorail at the TTC rather than having to transfer. Easy is best with kids that little!

While it is a great convenience to be in the MK Resort area when you might be spending the majority of your time at the MK, by no means is anyone locked into stay in this resort area. Monorail is nice but not a must. MK is the most popular with young kids. Rolling a stroller on and off the monorail is not guranteed, especially when crowds are large...but at the CR you can walk back.

At this age your children have just developed a sense of self and their separate from others. The concept of Disney Resort-Parks for your kids is not mentally possible at this age. Stay where you please just realize you will be carrying stuff along with the stroller(s). Select a resort where you can have a vacation too, but maintain the daily routine like naps and the travel time involved.

thats exactly what we did last fall, although we were at the yc and our twins were 2.5 (and big brother was 4.5). we spent the mornings at mk/mgm/or ak, and most of our evenings, except for our mnsshp night, at epcot. what a wonderful way to end the day, just strolling back to the resort. and it ended up being a great way to do epcot with the kids. we didn't have a designated epcot day, just did it in pieces in the evenings, and the morning we were leaving we made a quick visit for a couple of hours.

honestly I guess our take on it was that we would be going to mk and such anyway, this made epcot so easy/nice to visit. it was fun wandering the boardwalk area with them, too.

someday I wouldn't mind staying on the monorail, but something about the bw/bc/yc area that just pulls at us.

eta, as for the pool at the yc/bc, we found it ideal for little ones. for older kids I can see it getting a little difficult to keep eyes on. but kids our age were idea...they loved the sand bar area...hard to drag them away, actually.

We are going to be staying at CR 12/13-12/16 for DD2.5 first trip. We picked it because of convenience and so if she has a problem with the fireworks or it's nap time, we can watch them from our balcony or get back fast to the room. We spent a lot of money on this trip but I think we made the right decision on picking the resort that is closest to MK.
