So what do you call it?:confused3

I use gas ;) and I grill!

If I cook outside, I call it BBQ, even though it's really only grilling.

BBQ is done with wood and BBQ sauce. Grilling is done with gas.

imho bbq involves wood chips/smoke (low temp and slow cooking)

grilling is either charcoal or gas - no wood.smoke involved

but whether we are grilling or bbq'ing - we call the activity having a bbq :lmao:

Growing up in Massachusetts, anytime you cooked food outdoors, it was a BBQ.

Now I live in NC and I grill. BBQ is pulled pork :thumbsup2

If you're using gas you might as well be broiling in the oven. Charcoal is the only way to grill!

Barbecue is a noun in North Carolina. Grill can be a noun (thing you cook on outdoors) or a verb (the processing of cooking outdoors on the grill). :lmao:

BBQ is slow cooking over a fire for a long, long time. It does not have to have actual BBQ sauce. The better artists don't need it.

Grilling is cooking outdoors to prepare a meal which, in relation to BBQ, is rather quick.

Here barbecue/bbq is also typically a noun, or it might be an adjective if it ends in -'d or -ed. I rarely if ever hear anyone around here call the cooking device "the barbecue". I only ever hear that on HGTV :). If the term is used to refer to the cooking device here (which usually is just called "the grill" or the "gas grill"), then it's still an adjective and it is the "barbecue grill" or "barbecue pit".

Also here, the food is usually beef or chicken, and not pork. Except for ribs. I am noticing pulled pork sandwiches on menus more often, though.

We BBQ. We use a charcoal grill to cook the meat on and we put a few wood chips in with the charcoal.

Chicken, ribs, steaks, burgers: all can be barbaqued. All cooked with sauce.

At some of the "BBQ" resteraunts they serve smoked meats with sauce added after it is cooked. That is NOT what we consider BBQ.

Older ds gets home next week, I think we will be having a family BBQ next weekend. YUMMY!!!
