BBQ vs Grilling

Where I come from, BBQ has nothing to do with sauce or rub. BBQ is low, slow cooking for a relatively long period of time with wood/smoke. Grilling is direct, moderate-to-high heat which takes a relatively short period of time.

Now see, we would consider that "smoked" not "bbq". Funny how different it is in different parts of the country.

If there is no sauce--we call it "grilled".

Usually just call it "grilling out" usually use charcoal. BBQ to me implies use of a sauce of some kind BBQ sauce.

Here a bbq is just a name for cooking outside whether it be gas or wood. Sauce is generally not used unless its something fancy and most times a bbq involves sausages amongst other things.

I agree....I really dont know anyone that still uses charcoal to bbq---its almost always gas unless of coarse you are camping or something.

You aren't in the south are you? Some southerners still use gas, but there are a lot of us that wouldn't be caught dead using that stuff. Nothing against gas itself, but that isn't BBQ that is grilling outside and it just isn't as good. However, in an emergency we have been know to use ours for hamburgers and hot dogs, but again, that is grilling.

Of course, even folks using charcoal are subject to derision, unless they're using lump charcoal rather than briquettes.
