I have reservations at BBB (castle) next week for my DD 11. Have any of you taken girls this age? Did they enjoy it and if so what style did they choose? I'm beginning to worry that my daughter might be embarrassed about looking like a "little girl" and want to immediately go wash out the $40 do right after the appt. Any thoughts?

Every girl is different. Have you explained BBB to your DD and asked her what she wants to do? I really would if you haven't. If she's excited about the idea, go for it. If not, don't.

I really do see the vast majority of BBB clients are little girls. There are a few older girls you see with a BBB do. They look beautiful and I always take a moment to compliment them because I worry that the pre-teens might be self-conscious. They seem pleased with themselves when I do.

I will tell you that my DD, who just turned 10, has never had any interest in the BBB. I asked her about it and she just informed me that she thinks that 7-8 is the upper limit for going there. Of course, that's not necessarily the case, but you may want to ask to be sure you expectations are the same as your DD's.

Good luck and enjoy!

My DDs are 9 and 11. Neither of them has any interest in going to BBB. They both say about 7/8 for upper age limit.

my daughter is 10 and i know her aunt has booked her in with her little sister and I'm trying to find a nice way to tell aunt that DD is really embarassed about it as she thinks it's for younger girls (where as aunt is convinced dd is still a small girl, she doesn't have kids and doesn't see dd very often and will think it is me convincing dd it's too babyish)

However i very much agree it varies girl to girl so talk with her- my eldest has never been an overly frilly, girly-girl where as some of her other friends are still really into it all. Only you know your daughter, I think you need to talk with her and check you're doing it for her not her doing it for you (as i know my daughter is for her aunt)

My DD9 is planning on it! Your daughter would not have to wear a costume to get her hair done. I work in my daughter's school and many of the 4th and 5th grade girls are very much into body jewelry (the sticker they put on you cheek at the BBB), the colored hair extensions, etc. Maybe not so much the princesses, but the whole makeover thing. I consider myself lucky that my 9 year old is still into princesses. She wants to dress up as Tinkerbelle this June!

My DD went when she was 10(almost 11) and loved it!! While it is mainly younger girls we did see many older girls and even some teens and mom's get a makeover at BBB. DD told me next time I have to get my hair done too - lol That should be lots of fun;)

If you check out he thread link in my sig you will see lots of pics of princesses of all ages from 3 to adult and even some mother/daughter groups that have done it. She will not be wearing a costume unless it is for a party and she could problaby have a lot of fun w/ any one of the hairstyles. I will say that most of the older girls and women who have done BBB have done the POP Princess hairstyle.

When my oldest DD was 13, she went and did the Pop princess and loved it and enjoyed it all day long. The next morning, she put the hair piece back in and enjoyed it yet again. I think she will love it.

my 13 year old is begging to do this along with the dd6 twins!! She said to me last night "mom can I go to bbb? Yeah I'm a little old, but if you have the chance to get all sparkly and be treated like a princess, why not?"
aww don't you love it when those teenagers finally show their nice cute side?
so, yeah it varies. But if your daughter wants to, but thinks it'll be emarassing, tell her to do what makes her happy. If she's afraid people will stare, tell her "why wouldn't you stare at such a pretty princess?"
Its all about self-confidence even at 9 and 10 years old.
so, let her do her thing, and don't be disappontted if she thinks she's too old. You would be even more disappointed if she was cranky and moody the whole day!

My youngest did it last year at 10 and had a good time - she didn't do the dress up just a nice outfit and the traditional bun and makeup. She had a great time and her "fairy godmother" was teriffic. It was a group of very young preschoolers when we were there but that didn't bother my dd.

I asked her if she was interested this year and she though No she is too old:(

Thank you all so much for your input. I spoke with my daughter about it more last night and showed her pictures and although I told her we'd have to make the final call by Thursday I think she's still leaning towards going. Tweens focus so much on growing up all the time it will be nice for us both to just have a "kid" day again.
Thanks again!!!

We are taking DD7 and DN11 to BBB in 3 weeks and they both can't wait. My DN went with her Dad and stepMom and had to sit while her sister had all the fun at BBB because THEY decided for her that she was too old. When I heard that story, I knew exactly where we were going at the beginning of our trip:thumbsup2 Now, I definitely think that each child and /or tween is different and you should ask them what they would like. But all I know is that when I surprised my DN with a brochure and a crown, I definitely won the Best Aunt of the Year Award:rotfl: Enjoy whatever you choose:wizard:

I'm so glad you talked to her and she's excited. Have a great time!

I hope she enjoys it! DD LOVES it and is really looking forward to our upcoming trip just so she can be a princess again ... but, of course, she's only 5!

:lmao: I had to laugh b/c I'm 27 and wanted to go to BBB when we were there last! I can't wait till Ilana can go at 3, now we just have to plan a trip for then...Nov 09 here we come!
