That sounds like it's backing up my comment that the value is weighted towards the early years? People certainly focus on how many years worth of points they get but there also are a lot of owners who will not own the contract that full length or possibly even survive the contract. As mentioned just above 6 years is not the same difference as looking at a 2042 vs 2060. I am now of an age where I refer to things that occurred decades ago and can 100% report I'd not be worrying about it 40 years from now. Of course I actually am one who stuck with the Apr UY I wanted for VGC even though I did not get the current year points. I could make my usage work and while that was a mental struggle because it was immediate and I KNEW what I could get with a different UY I still have had the points to use all this time and it no longer bothers me. I can think of a specific poster who decided against it because of that current year point issue and I think they finally bought resale over a decade later and paid a lot more than that 1 year of points cost me. Of course when the 50 years rolls around I'd just be hoping I might even remember being bothered about it!![]()
I think it is highly likely I will not want to travel to WDW when I get extremely old; I will therefore look to sell my contracts at SOME point. I would like to be able to (hopefully) sell my contracts at some point to recoup some (or maybe all) of what I paid for them when I bought them, and will not likely hold them when I am close to the funeral home, This is why I sold the only 2042 contract I had, even though I like the resort - I just didn't like the math but YMMV. Essentially DVC ownership is about buying POINTS. Some people may think short term because for most of us, this is an emotional purchase of a place we love, and not in a financially savvy way; but it may just be that when we close in on less than 20 years left on those 2042 contracts (which believe it or not will happen in only 16 months in 2022) the resale values of those MIGHT just start to go down. In any case they certainly must lose value as the expiration gets closer and fewer points remain. BLT goes way past 2042 (2060) and POLY goes even further (2066) - this is why I like them and the other longer term DVC contracts - resale VALUE.That sounds like it's backing up my comment that the value is weighted towards the early years? I know I would not pay the same for a contract that has only half the number of points over the next 20 years as one that has double the amount (around 40 years). Just my opinion, but thats why Ionly look to own more contracts at 2054+ resorts.. I also think that if you can afford the point cost for 1 bedrooms (which is very high) than it seems based on Pete's DVC charts (thanks again Skier Pete!) that 7 months is pretty wide open for any 1 bedroom (at least based on past history). Good luck on whatever you decide!
