Bay Lake Tower refurb dates

The couch/sofa bed is also a queen sized bed.
Obviously you haven't looked at my previous posts but I understand it to queen size bed. The problem is the sofa beds are extremely uncomfortable with the mattress that's barely 2 inches thick. Most people who have slept on these understand exactly what I'm talking about. Someone who is 6 foot 3 and weighs 260 pounds would not be comfortable on this particular bed. And it's the reason why I usually refuse to stay at the resorts that don't have Murphy beds.

That's not what I said. I said that I don't want to sleep on a couch (obviously he doesn't fit on a pull out couch) which means he'll automatically get the Queen sized bed leaving me stuck with the couch bed which I refused to sleep on.

I believe @AnnaKristoff2013 and others have looked at your previous posts and came to the same question as me of Why in the world does your son not fit on a queen size pull out couch when he fits on a queen size bed?

You had originally stated that he wouldn't fit on the couch bed and would automatically get the queen bed in the room.

That is why many people have asked why he would not fit on the couch bed if he can fit on the normal queen.

Whether you have the older room with the pull out couch or the refurb with Murphy bed couch they both transform into queen beds and hence your other guest should be able to sleep on the pull out/pull down as it is the same size.

Obviously the pull down is thicker and would be more comfortable but you stated he would not fit which is not the case if he can fit on a normal queen bed.

It is also a gross exaggeration by Op to state that the couch-bed mattress is "barely 2 inches thick." It's more like 5 inches thick. Adults have been sleeping on those couch beds for decades. The couch beds at Disney are much more comfortable than the crappy couch beds they have at like a Springhill Suites or Embassy Suites.

With that said, If you don't want to sleep on a couch bed as an adult, don't rent points to stay at Bay Lake Tower. I would hope that owners get priority into the refurbed rooms over renters. Op's entire posting here comes off pretty entitled. She's renting a room from another owner and annoyed that she might not get a refurbished room (and also annoyed that posters are correctly pointing out that the couch bed is a queen-sized bed, and can easily fit an adult, including one who is 6' 3''). If you don't want to sleep on a couch bed, don't rent points for a hotel that includes a couch bed, in my opinion. Don't expect Disney to give the newest refurbed room to someone renting DVC points.

That actual pullout sofas are full sized, not queen (just looked it up and can see why he did not fit comfortably on those pullout sofas) I had already ended this a few weeks back so I don't know why it needed to be brought up again. I asked this same question is another dvc group and had no problems getting my questions answered. I have already canceled and rebooked at the Grand Floridian Resort studios so I'll have no problems. I was only staying here because we were trying to hit up all the resorts on property. Since I've already stayed at the Contemporary, there is really no need to stay here.

The pullout sofas are queens in the 1 bedrooms which is where our family stays. My apologies I didn't realize the studios were Full Size beds.

Obviously that's not the case and within the next month if I notice that nothing has been started I'll be canceling and rebooking to either stay at the Riviera or the Boardwalk.

You never stated it had ended only that you would most likely be cancelling in the next month, we are still in the current month but also people tend to read in order on threads so they saw your first comment and replied to it.

I'm glad you found your answer and sorry it took so long.

I hope you and your son enjoy your trip!

The skyway bridge to The Contemporary is currently closed as part of the refurb. We got a non-refurbed TPV studio on the 8th floor.

Having to walk around ground level is a bit of a pain to get to the monorail or QS. Hope it doesn't stay closed for too long.

A few times we needed to use the resort elevators to get to fifth floor at contemporary since DH uses a scooter . They were really busy. Maybe we just caught a bad day.
We are going in the middle of March and I hope it is open by then for this very reason. I will be using a scooter on the trip and we have several meals at Contemporary as well as Poly and GF that we wanted to use the Monorail for. If we have to wait for the elevators, then we will just have to include extra time.

We asked for and were given a refurb studio when we checked in today. While still a very small room, it is quite an upgrade. The skybridge being closed is a bit of a pain, but the much bigger deal is having one bank of elevators also being down. The line for the only functional elevators was longer than some rides. Is what it is and I'm happy to finally see our dues being put to use in updating the aging BLT.

Can anyone give a status update on the skyway bridge to the Contemporary? We'll be going in about a week.

It was closed as of yesterday. It was not an issue for us. Only 1 elevator bank was open though. That was a bit more annoying but not a big deal for us. People using large strollers or in a scooter had some issues.

Being there last week with the Skybridge closed, the super cold weather, and the downpouring rain made for miserable treks to the Contemporary to fill soda mugs (the dang pool bar was closed at BLT for most of the week so it made refills there impossible) and pick up breakfast. I had to wait 10 minutes for elevators several times, and while I’m able bodied, I can’t imagine having to do it in a scooter or a wheelchair. Honestly I’m shocked that they aren’t offering partial points per nights refunds (something small like 2 or 3) for how much of an inconvenience it was. Maybe I’m dumb and DVC doesn’t do anything like that (this was my first stay as a DVC owner).

I got a refurbed 2 Bed TPV room as I requested which was great, but the room was far from “finished”. The chandelier over the kitchen table didn’t turn on and we had to ask them two days in a row to get it fixed. The light outside our room for the room number was broken as well. None of the ports around the phone cables/power cords on any of the end tables/night stands were actually glued down, so the metal pieces kept falling out whenever anyone set stuff down or casually bumped them. Multiple outlets didn’t work (got that fixed with the chandelier), and we had a light switch that never ended up turning anything on and off in the main living room. The room was also missing a laundry basket, and had 0 hangars in the closet for folks who might have to sleep in the living room. Both of the countertop chairs were wobbly. Also very surprising that there’s no water for the fridge since most of the other DVC resorts have had ice makers in the freezer. This didn’t even have an ice cube tray. The HVAC system was a problem as well. Since it was freezing or close to it every night we turned on the “heat” by setting the room temp to anything above 70 degrees, but heat never came out, just slightly less cold air. I even set the thermostat to 75 one day when we left and hoped to come back to a warm room but no dice. I’m also surprised there’s no shelf/hooks near the front entry to hang jackets/ponchos/lanyards/purses. We were in room 8230 if you’d like to avoid in the future.

The artwork and the room styles were very nice and we loved the look of the refurb, so I’m happy there, just kinda disappointed that they slapdashed this together and expect it to last a decade. I know I sound like I’m nitpicking, and I do really enjoy being at BLT, so I’m happy to be an owner, I just hope everyone else has better experiences with the new rooms.

I know I sound like I’m nitpicking,
I don’t think you’re nitpicking. It sounds to me as if your villa wasn’t ready for occupancy. You should send a copy of this post, or at minimum the paragraph about the room itself, to MS via the email link on the member website.

Does MS take stuff like this seriously? It was my first stay as DVC so I don't really know the ins and outs.

Yes, they do, and they need to hear about it and to know that the room wasn’t really ready. Whether you own at BLT or at a different resort, you’re an owner, and MS represents the management company. They’re not the landlord, you are.
