Bay Lake Tower bathroom locks concern

We're considering the Bay Lake Tower for our next trip. Our two teenagers really like the idea of three bathrooms in the 2-bedroom units which means they will each will have "their own" and won't have to share, but they and my wife are not 100% comfortable with the lack of locks on the bathroom doors. Has anyone had an issue or thought of a remedy?

Why do you need locks? Surely everyone is old enough to know that if the door is closed, the bathroom is occupied.

I think it's just a litte bit of extra security that will make the girls feel more comfortable.

If you're concerned about Mousekeeping coming in to your room, you can always put the "privacy" sign on your doorknob and make sure the security lock on the door is engaged. That way, even with a room key, no one would be able to enter your room.

We just got back from BLT last month and we had no issues with the bathroom doors not having locks. But, our kids range from 10 yrs old to 3 yrs old, so we wouldn't have used locks even if there were locks on the bathroom doors. For us, that's too big of a risk that the little ones could lock themselves in!

We had the same issue at the Treehouse Villas last summer. It was us, my parents, my sister, her husband, and teenage son. We took the privacy sign off the front door, and used it as a bathroom occupied indicator. The only problem we ran into was that my nephew never remembered to remove the sign when he was done.

I've read about some people using a rubber door stop at the back of the door to keep it from sliding open. But really - a closed bathroom door isn't a sign that a person should knock before entering? And if everyone has their own bathroom, then what's the issue? Stay out of the bathrooms that aren't yours.

The only problem we saw with the BLT doors was not so much the locks but the fact that they slide open from the outside and can do so very easily, even if just bumped.

My son was getting something from the luggage (which was near the lock off door) and was walking back by the bathroom and happened to bump the door as he went through. It caused the door to slide open about a foot. Well, my DD 16, who was in there at the time, was not too happy. Luckily, he was looking the other way.

So, it wasn't an issue with someone not knowing to go in, it is simply that they slide open a bit too easily. I like the idea of using a rubber stop and will bring one with me this summer.

OK - you do a family discussion once you arrive:

1) When the door is closed - it may be occupied - do NOT under any circumstances go in unless you loudly knock and wait for an answer. If you hear water - DO NOT GO IN.

2) Anyone going to use the bathroom, must loudly announce to others "I am going to use the bathroom - DO NOT COME IN".

Works for our family with no problems whatsoever.

Well, IMO, not having locks on the bathroom doors is just plain odd. Don't know why this relatively minor expense was cut from the BLT budget, but hopefully it's not a sign of things to come in future projects.

Due to the very nature of BRs, we usually keep the doors closed anyway, even when they are not occupied. Especially the one adjacent to the living area at BLT. So while this issue may not be especially troubling to some, for others who desire that extra sense of privacy, locks are a welcome addition.

At BLT, loud and robust singing may have to substitute for locks for now.
