I saw a thread on a rumor of this being a possibility because the section of garden apartments seemed sectioned off..is this true? other rumors? is anyone currently stayin in the garden comtemporary apartments or is it empty?

I would guess that depends entirely on how well the BLT is selling. Remember that the South Garden Wing went through a rehab shortly before construction on BLT started, and usually Disney won't rehab something it intends to tear down. But you never know.

I was thinking last night, with the popularity of the BLT, I wonder if there is room in Anaheim for a tower like this......:confused3

Actually, we stayed in the garden rooms where BLT is now (North wing?) in 2005 and they were smack dab in the middle of a huge remodel. Remember it well because we were upgraded to the tower due to the carpet nails and smell of paint, not the mention the plastic drapes up and down every hall.

However, I've read that the "construction" on the other wing is to shore up the land but not to add another tower. I personally feel like adding another tower there doesn't make any sense. The views would be completely different than BLT and not as desirable IMHO. You never know with Disney, I would just much prefer BLT to a tower further away from MK

I asked a cast member myself about the possibility and he said no. Apparently the land will not support a building bigger then the South Garden Wing that is currently there.

The DVC gal I bumped into when I made my illicit trip to the Tower (do I sound like Ann Boleyn?) told me there is rumor of another tower going up (duh).

She also told me BLT is 3/4 sold already -- I find that hard to believe, but anything is possible -- and that there is also the possibility of adding a DVC hotel to Tokyo. Yes, Tokyo. :confused3

I find that hard to believe, too, since only about 50% of the inventory has been declared. But hey, maybe they'll build that extra tower right after they finally put the monorail tracks through the Swan and Dolphin...

I still say there is no way DVC saw better than expected BLT sales, planned, financed, imagineered, sent out bids, and started construction on a new tower. Even if the decision was made after the first week, BLT has not been for sale long enough to start new construction......
unless BLT2 was always in the plans starting years ago...

On the other hand, I do not fully believe the "bad ground" distraction Disney might be putting out. I've seen too many "Modern Marvels" episodes on thinks like the world's tallest hotel being built in Dubai, on sand of a new-man-made island, where they need to be concerned with earthquake "liquifying" the sand. engineers seemed confident with driving enough piles deep enough....

Anything with Disney is possible, but the South Wing was not sectioned off in any visible way last week.

The South Wing is open for business as usual.

BLT is located where North Wing previously stood, but if I'm reading you correctly BLT is what you're referring to in your post ;-) lol!

I'm sure I read thread here in past 2 weeks where the poster said the South Wing was being fenced off so they asked a CM who said BLT 2 is expected (not that CMs know the real story)......:scratchin jmho think it will become reality, especially once the economy really gets rolling again which it will eventually

I hope it does happen - I'm very impressed with what I've seen & heard here so far about BLT and we can't wait to stay there. And aesthetically 2nd tower is needed to ~balance~ the whole picture :rotfl:

I agree with what a PP said about the lack of a good view for a tower built on the south side of the Contemporary - I would bet that any additional DVC construction on Bay Lake would not happen at CR first but rather at GF or Poly. (Yes, I understand there are questions about whether or not there is really space for that.)

You are right, goes to show what posting without enough sleep does, it is the South Wing. :thumbsup2

I was wondering about that very same thing during my recent trip down there.

Part of me thinks they might just go for something at the Poly -- perhaps doing what was done at the CR, and tearing down some longhouses to build a high rise (which, frankly, would depress me...and probably destroy the character of the Poly). However, it's worth noting that the original designs for the Poly were to include a modern high rise tower anyway...

The GF, though, is more problematic, though I seem to remember someone on these boards came up with a fascinating layout/footprint for a possible GF DVC.

Would a second BLT tower located on the grounds of the South Garden Wing cause an outbreak of Addonitis?

If a second tower is built, it has to have some special appeal, or "hook" if you will, to attract buyers. Why would a DVC member who owns BLT points want to buy more points just because there is a second tower? And if existing DVCers haven't bought any BLT points by now, why would a second tower motivate them to do so? If anything, a second tower with more rooms might make DVCers think there is a greater chance of booking at the 7-month window, so it could actually lessen the demand for having the BLT as a home resort.

I think it would be more appealing to build a second tower in a place where it could have its own identity and could be marketed as a new resort. Addonitis would be much more contagious if there was a Poly Tower or GF Tower, or my personal fantasy favorite, a Hollywood Studios Tower.

Ooooh, I would totally buy Tokyo.

... cheap Grand Villa points! You'd get on the elevator to bring you up to your 15th floor GV and the elevator goes up to the 13th floor..
then down to the 3rd, up to the 10th, then down to the 6th, the up to the 5th (sometimes I think it's going up and down at the same time) finally you give up and walk all the way up.

Now you know why they say you never leave (you just do not want to walk back up to your room)

Just curiouse where you read/saw this. I've seen plenty of concept art for the poly, and never saw a high rise tower.
