Bausch & Lomb recall

I have been using AOSEPT since i got my contacts in 1993.

as we discussed like everyone else i had to try something different- i actually liked to no-rub stuff!--

i am soooo lazy :goodvibes -- i hated the AOSEPT routine- fill your little cup up----use the miraflow on your contacts- put them in the little cup...watch it fizz up and go all over the counter! :lmao:

i dont think i will go back to the AOSEPT i will try another no rub solution.

I use AOSept too. When I called Ciba a couple weeks ago they said it would be back on the shelves in early April. I haven't been able to find it anywhere yet. I can't find that Clear Care either. I was going to try Renu until I could find AO again, don't think I'll be doing that now.

maddhatir ~ If you do go back to AOSept, make sure you rinse your contacts completely (with saline) before you put them in the cup. If there's a little bit of Miraflow residue it can make the AO bubble up more. Also don't fill it past the line.

I've called Ciba Vision a couple times now. Each time, I am told I should start seeing Aopsept on the store shelves within a week. They did say Clear Care was an alternative for Aosept. I bought some last night because I am almost out of my last bottle of Aosept.

Can you let us know if you get thru and find anything out? All I use is B&L products.

Okay I'm freaking out about this. My eyes have been bothering me for the past few weeks, they are blurry and I can't stand to wear my contacts. I've been complaining about my eyes for weeks now. I've been wearing my glasses a lot and I thought it was just because I need a new prescription so I made an appt with the eye doctor to get a new exam. Well now reading this, I really think I have an infection. I used the sample of Moisture Loc they sent me and I have the empty bottle sitting here. Today I wore my contacts and used the Target brand solution and couldn't wait to get home to rip them out of my eyes. So now I guess I need to make an appt with the opthamologist, not the optomotrist and of course I have to jump through hoops to get a referral from my doctor so who knows when I'll actually get an appointment. Ugh, I'm so frustrated by this and am going to be really upset if I have an infection :(

I stopped at Walmart tonight to pick up a different kind. I grabbed the B&L Sensitive Eyes saline solution. When I got to the checkout the cashier said that she wouldn't be able to sell it to me. Apparently, they didn't take the solutions off the shelf yet, but blocked them in the register so the cashiers coudn't ring them up. I told her I thought it was just the Renu solutions. She tried the B&L Sensitive eyes and it went through. Now I'm really hoping it's okay to use. I didn't buy another brand b/c I have never ever tried any other brands. In 20 years, I've always used B&L.

Chell - I have been using the equate brand from walmart with no problems. I always had trouble with renu no rub and b&l for sensitive eyes.

I'm kind of freaked about the whole B and L fungus thing. I use B and L Moisture Loc and have since it came out. Well, within the last month my eyes have gotten red and contacts unbareable to wear. I thought it might be eye allergies (which I've NEVER had before) so I got allergy drops. That didn't really help. I thought it might be pink eye too so I got some tobramycin drops and used them religiously (not with my allergy drops mind you). That didn't really work either. My eyes would clear up for a few days, I'd put my contacts back in, and they'd be red again by mid-day. When wearing my contacts I'd still use my B and L Moisture Loc solution. I've made an appt. with my eye Dr. for this week and hopefully he can shed some light on it before I go blind and have to have a cornea transplant!!

I haven't used the B and L solution in over a week or two and my eyes are STILL bothering me. I even switched lenses thinking mine had the wrong RX or something. I sent my mom an email basically freaking out. She sent me a link to a lawyer that is handling this..I sent my information and figure the more information they compile about who is using this solution and having problems, the better off everyone will be. They already called me tonight and asked me a few questions. Here is a link for anyone who is interested:

FOR RELEASE MONDAY, APRIL 10, 2006

Rochester, NY --- Bausch & Lomb (NYSE:BOL) announced today that it is temporarily suspending U.S. shipments of ReNu® with MoistureLoc® produced at its Greenville, S.C., manufacturing facility in order to facilitate the further investigation of reports of fungal keratitis infections among contact lens wearers in the United States. This action does not affect any other Bausch & Lomb products. Today's announcement follows the release of a report by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that it is reviewing reports of 109 cases of suspected fungal keratitis. The CDC reports that the majority of cases have yet to be reviewed, but of the 30 cases reviewed to date, 28 involved contact lens wearers. Twenty-one reported using ReNu brand contact lens care products and 5 reported using a combination of ReNu and products manufactured by other companies. Bausch & Lomb has been collaborating with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the CDC, major eye centers and health authorities in a comprehensive investigation to determine if the reports represent an increase in the historical incidence of these infections, and to determine the root cause.

"Bausch & Lomb's first priority is the health and safety of consumers," said Ronald L. Zarrella, chairman and CEO of the company. "The CDC data released today are both troubling and perplexing, as there is an apparent disproportionate representation of U.S. manufactured ReNu with MoistureLoc in the underlying data. The source of these infections has not been determined. Based on our extensive testing, analysis and further internal reviews, and communications with leading experts, the available scientific evidence does not establish any type of ReNu solution as a cause.

"The CDC has not determined if these reports represent an increase of Fusarium keratitis infections and is continuing to investigate the association, if any, of these cases with any product. Nonetheless, in the interest of public health, we will voluntarily suspend U.S. shipments of ReNu with MoistureLoc while we pursue all appropriate steps to bring this investigation to a definitive conclusion," Zarrella concluded.

Bausch & Lomb encourages contact lens wearers to follow these guidelines from the American Optometric Association:

Carefully and regularly clean contact lenses, as directed by an optometrist and the patient information included with lens care products.
Rub the contact lenses with fingers and rinse thoroughly before soaking the lenses overnight in enough multi-purpose solution to completely cover the lens.
Store lenses in the proper case and replace the lens storage case every three months. Clean the contact lens case after each use and keep the case open and dry between cleanings.
Use the proper products to clean and disinfect contact lenses as recommended by your optometrist. Remember that saline solutions and rewetting drops are not designed to disinfect lenses.
Only fresh solution should be used to clean and disinfect contact lenses. Never re-use old solution. Contact lens solution must be changed every day, even if the lenses are not used daily.
Always replace old contacts when you get a new contact prescription.

I did finally reach B & L today. I was told that is only the MoistureLoc. The No-Rub is fine.

I was comparing my freebie "moisture loc" ingrediates to my regular RENU solution. it shows right on the side of the box what ingredient/chemical it is that makes up the "moisture loc"

the particular ingredient/chemical is NOT used in the regular RENU solution.

I work for an eye doctor and we had to get rid of ALL our renu products even rewetting drops and also the complete brand also. Anything that b&l made, we had to pull.

The b&l rep came into our work and gave us a speech about it and how to handle people with it, we were told to tell everyone to throw all of it away and not to use. Even to get a new set of contacts. kinda scarey coming from the B&l rep herself.

We are giving most people optifree for now

Thanks for letting me know...I wasn't sure and my eye doctor appointment is next week, but I think I'll move it up. If there is an infection is the optomotrist able to prescribe something or do they refer you to the primary care doctor? I have an appt. with my primary tomorrow for the problem, but maybe I should cancel and just see the optomotrist instead since they probably know more about this than her.

On a side note...this morning I was calling the doctor for the appointment for my eyes and was on hold so I was curling my hair at the same time since DS and I were in a hurry to get to the city to see Beauty and the Beast on Broadway. Well..I didn't have my contacts in, didn't have my glasses on, and my vision isn't the clearest and of course I was distracted and I picked up the wrong end of the curling iron and burnt my hand! OMG it hurts so bad!! That sucker was hot too! It was on the 30 setting! Talk about a bad day!! I'm probably going blind and my skin on my hand is going to fall off, but it's just the kind of luck I have :lmao: It's not funny...but it is KWIM? ;)
