Has anyone tried the spray can pancake/waffle batter? I kind of want to buy it, but it's sold in 3 packs at the local Costco and I hate to buy that much if it turns out to be nasty. How does it compare to pancakes made from Bisquik mix? Does it keep well after opening? We usually only do pancakes on weekends.

I bought it at Costco and we did not like it at all. We usually make our pancakes and waffles from scratch and we could taste a real difference. But my mom, who usually makes her pancakes from Bisquick, loved it and keeps buying the stuff.

I think you'll just have to try it yourself. I'm interested in other people's opinions on this too.

We bought it....once.

First of all, the pancakes were sickeningly sweet.

Second, the open cans did not store very well. The first time you used the can, the pancakes were nice and fluffy. After the can had sat in the fridge for several days, the pancakes would not rise very well and you had flat little saucers for pancakes.

We used up the first can, started the second to see if it was just a fluke that the pancakes wouldn't rise and then ended up just tossing the third can.

My son 'had' to have this! We tried it once before the can was canned! Gross and really greasy.

We like them.

They're definitley not made from scratch pancakes (the texture is different--crispy outsides and slightly spongy insides), but it produces some pretty decent pancakes with ZERO prep time or clean up.

Plus, sometimes you only want a couple of pancakes. It's great to be able to just whip up a couple on the fly. In less than 3 minutes you're eating your pancakes!

Finally, the can is great for making shaped pancakes. I can get a pretty good pancake Mickey and somewhat recognizable letters from the can.

If you do buy it, here are a couple of tips:

--Spray the batter into a mound and let it flatten itself. Don't try to spray a circle--it will spread too much and come out like crepes.

--Don't use the old "bubbles in the middle" way of knowing when to turn them. These don't cook up in quite the same way. I've had the best luck with these when I turn them when the edges look dry and formed.

I loved the "funness" of using it. I usually use Bisquick. My kids did NOT like the blaster taste but love the Bisquick.

The packaging looks so unenvironmentally-friendly, I won't buy them.

We love Bisquick pancakes in my house. A batch is always more than we'll eat, but the leftovers keep well for a few days in the fridge and heat up nicely in the microwave.

Batter Blaster pancakes are horrible! Too thin, too sweet, too tough. Bisquick makes the best pancakes by far, and after a few of my own adjustments (extra baking powder, a little sugar and a little vanilla) I can say that nothing else comes close!

DS9 found the BB in the fridge and for some reason didn't read the label. Gave it a squirt into his mouth like he does with the whipped cream, and he told me the whipped cream had gone bad.

I thought I was grabbing the whipped cream since it was next to each other and squirted BB into my hot chocolate.

I use it for waffles, they come out pretty crispy and light. Never used it for pancakes though.

It's a recyclable steel can with a CO2 propellant. I'm sleeping OK tonight!

The pancakes are, well, just plain weird. The texture isn't what I like, and the taste is just 'eh.' OTOH, they sell two mixes at Costco for pancakes which are outstanding. Lehi Roller Mills (whole grain) and Quaker Oatmeal Pancake mix. They take about 2 minutes longer than the "in the can" junk, and are way better, not to mention way cheaper.

Here's my update:

I bought a can of Batter Blaster at the local Harris Teeter and made pancakes with it this morning. The pancakes tasted sweeter than I expected, and I thought it had a rather strange after taste, kind of malty. I didn't eat it with syrup, it was sweet enough as it is. It was easy to squirt out, but the gooey tip was messy to clean off with a paper towel. I ended up rising it under warm water, but was worried about whether water may get into the can. I did use about half the can by making six pancakes (about the size of my hand). I'm going to clean out my waffle iron tonight and try it on that. But overall, I'm not too impressed with the product and probably won't be buying it again.
