Bathtub hold bars

Stayed at CBR regular room and surprised to find no hold bar in bathtub. Is this typical of all Disney resorts? I thought it would be pretty standard anymore just for people needing a little help getting into shower or up from a bath. Thanks.

I'm surprised at this. They've been at every resort I've been to, if I remember correctly.

At WDW I think only HA wheelchair accessible rooms have grab bars in the shower/tub. The “Florida Special” rooms specifically mention bars near the toilet but not the tub. Pictures of "regular" rooms don't show any, even in the most recently renovated rooms. I agree it does seem that many other hotels include them in all rooms.

Enjoy your vacation!

Exactly. You have to specifically book a room type that has those kind of accommodations, otherwise you will not have any type of grab bars or other accommodations in a standard Disney Resort room.

Some of the resorts have grab bars in all ground floor rooms, but it’s not consistent.

I just reserved for our next vacation yesterday and the CM specifically noted on my reservation that I need a room with grab bars in the shower. I think it may be a you have to ask for it thing.

I also just booked my vacation and after talking to the CM about my concerns, she recommended a regular room but noted on my reservation that I needed a grab bar in the shower, a transfer bench (bench for shower), and they would add a hand-held shower head. I'm sure they will accommodate these requests.

So you booked a roll-in shower room?

Do you see those requests on your reservation when you check online through the website?

Just double-check and make sure, because if it isn't booked properly (and I love the Res Center CMs; they are all so kind and so much fun with work with but...) you won't get the accommodations that you want and need.

Thank, Mamabunny, I will double-check, but I did not request a roll-in shower, just a bench, handheld showerhead and hand bars for the tub.

That sounds like what you would get booking an “accessible room with tub” - which is a booking category not a request. Are there no accessible rooms available?

They may be able to honor the requests, but if you really need those items to make the tub/shower accessible to you, I highly recommend booking what you need and not relying on a request. I’ve read differing reports about getting a handheld shower installed, and the bench may or may not be what you need or in good condition. I’m not sure I’ve heard of anyone getting grab bars installed - those suction cup ones work until they don’t, and can’t be installed on small tile or texture surfaces. Requests are not guaranteed - especially when the request can granted via a bookable category. I would look into booking an accessible room.

Enjoy your vacation!

All things you mentioned are worth considering, landjudy, and I can call and request differently, but many of the accessible rooms have lower beds and toilets (which I understand is needed by many), but for me this is not good for my hip condition. Thus the problem of which type of room to get. lol I need half of one and half of another. But you are right, they seem to have different type of accessible rooms. Thankfully, I have time to reconsider and adjust if needed. You made some good points for me to consider and I'll look into the "accessible room with tub". Thanks!
