Basic questions about renting points for a split stay?

I tried to ask a few questions here and got deleted... I'm not looking for a transaction, just advice. I don't think I can even make a contract now since I'm so early! I want to do a split stay rental next September and don't know how that works.

So without details that might come across as me looking for a deal outside of the correct forum, am I going to have issues finding someone to rent from on the rent/ trade board if I want to stay at two different resorts in early Sept next year, esp if they are popular? If I try to reserve at 11 months out, how do I find people to rent from for two different home resorts? Am I looking for a unicorn that has both? Or do I take chances with two separate owners? The stress of getting one reservation then the owner having to hold points until 7 months out to try for the second with seems stressful for me and a pain for them.

Is September popular enough that I need to worry? Is there going to be a shortage of rental points given all the rescheduling AND the 50th in October?

When I'm looking at rent trade posts, what dates are particular UY for? Like, when are "June UY" points good for?

September is a busy month, but you will not have a problem finding points for a reservation at the 11-month window - you can do that in October. Would need to do it with home resort points - for instance, if you want to stay at Polynesian, you would need to use Poly points.

Also, I would advise against a split stay. Do you really want to lose a day at the park checking out and checking in? You would have to wait until 60 days / 180 days from the second check-in to book fast passes and dining reservations. Just choose a nice resort and spend your whole time there.

The use year is the month when the points become available. For instance, August points can be used from August 1st until July 31st. Most point rentals were non-refundable, so the use year did not really matter. But now with the pandemic upon us, some renters would prefer to reschedule and so it is beneficial to use points with a use year as closer as possible to your stay. But this only helps if your owner is willing to reschedule. If rescheduling is possible, you probably would want to avoid October and December, it would be OK to rent February, March or April points, and June, August or September would be the best.

Early Sept is not as busy as the latter part of the month. I’ve never had trouble booking around Labor Day weekend. But, this next year will be an outlier when it comes to booking DVC due to all of the points that are being banked forward due to the shutdown.

I’m also not a fan of split stays but I can understand how some might want to do one, especially if they are DVC-curious and want to try before they buy. If I were looking to rent for a split stay, I would make contact with different owners that have the home resorts you want.

UY refers to the useful dates that the owner’s points have. A June UY has points that can be used for a reservation that starts no sooner than the night of 06/01 or must be completed no later than the night of 05/31 of the following year. Renting points for a reservation that falls late in an owner’s UY is not advisable if you want any hope that they will be flexible with rescheduling your trip in the event we have a spike in CV-19 next fall. For a September reservation, a September UY would be ideal but not essential. Even an October UY’s points can be used for a Sept reservation as long as you understand that there would be almost no possibility of rescheduling your trip or getting a full refund if you need to cancel.

It is not a unicorn to find an owner that has points available at multiple resorts. The owner I rent from owns at most DVC resorts at WDW...I think VGF and SSR are the only two he doesn't own at.

The split stay will mean different ADR windows since you aren't a DVC member. I didn't mind that, but it did take reminders (we stay 14 nights, typically at 3 different resorts) to remember to book the ADRs on the 3 separate days.

Mainly, you are going to want to be concerned about the contract with the owners.
