Basic MB Question

We'll be taking our first WDW trip using our Magic Bands very soon. We have made FP+ reservations, ADRs and linked our resort reservation to the MBs. The MBs arrived over a week ago.

I am confused about something, however. Do we still need to somehow "activate" the MBs before we can use them in the first park we go to? I thought that the MBs were "live" once they were shipped to you.

To have to "activate" them via Guest Services or at our resort seems to defeat the purpose of the technology, right? I'd hate to find ourselves standing in a long GS line, before we can utilize the MBs on our first day.

Can someone clarify for me what, if anything, we need to do with/to the MBs, at the first park we enter?

We're in the same boat...going in May with MB for the first time. From what I understand, your MBs are your tickets, so you will need to check-in at your resort first. Even if your room is not ready, you can check-in first thing in the morning then go to the parks and proceed with your itinerary. When your room is ready, they will text you your room number.

When we checked in a couple of weeks ago we were told by the CM at the front desk that our MBs would be activated once we used them to enter our room. It was late at night so we went to our room to put stuff away, then back to the main building to eat a late dinner.

When we went to the room we all tried our MBs. My youngest daughter could not get her MB to open the door. SO, we went back to the front desk (we were going back up there anyway) and they scanned and fixed her band.

So, you do have a good question. Let's say you arrive early in the day and go straight to a park? Will the band be active? Are you using ME? They are supposed to work for getting on the ME bus too right??

Hmmmm. I guess I don't know for sure, but I have not heard of anyone saying they had to stand in a line to activate their MB.

We were planning on going straight to HS on our first day, since we won't be arriving until early afternoon. But, depending on what people tell us, perhaps we'll need to first go to our resort to get the MBs activated???
It truly makes no sense to me to have to do this, since everything is supposed to be linked to the MBs beforehand. If this is what Disney spent $1 billion dollars to develop, they've missed the boat.
Hope someone can clarify this for all of us!!! It will make a big difference in where we go, initially, upon arrival.
