Hi- Does anyone know if the basic MagicBand colors (Green, yellow, orange, etc) are on sale on property? They have not been available online for months and a few in our party have these as their first choice. Deciding whether to wait until we get there to purchase or to bite the bullet and buy alternative colors on ShopDisney. Thanks for any insight!

If you have an onsite reservation just go to MDE, select magic bands, and all the colors are there. Its the character bands that are difficult to get.

We are staying off-site (Swolphin) this time around so we don't have an option to select bands unfortunately! We are looking to purchase separately. Thanks for the advice though!

How would that work with the bands? Does a person disconnect them somehow from their account?

@js No, I'm just asking if they sell the basic colors along with the 'deluxe' colors and character bands in the on-property stores. They used to sell them on ShopDisney.com but recently they haven't restocked many of them.

Yes the plain bands are for sale in the parks and may be available at the gift shops at the Swalphin. They will definitely be available at the shops at the Boardwalk and Y&BC as well.

@misstommorrow in 2018 at the Disney Planning Desk in the Swan they had the basic Magic Bands for sale. We'd already purchased ours from Disney online, but I wanted to make sure everything with them was good to go. I think you can also purchase them at the small sundries shop in the Dolphin, as if right now the shop in Swan isn't open, but might be by the time you go.

@TinkLoverSam & @SteveH Thank you both - this is exactly what I was looking for! Wanted to make sure they weren't intentionally phasing out the basic colors for sale to push us toward the higher priced MBs. I'll give the hotel a call to see if they still sell them at the Planning desk. Otherwise, we'll hit the shops. Appreciate all of the info!

If you are flying, you can also pick them up at the Disney store at the airport. I had an offsite reservation and made a quick stop in the airport store to buy a cheap Magic Band. It was easy peasy to add it to my account.

Also, it sounds like maybe you have at least some bands from prior trips. If part of your party has bands, they can re-use bands that are already assigned to them. Just make sure they are active in MDE. Even if you don't plan to use them the entire stay, you could use them at the start of your trip.

Yes they have the basic solid colors at the gift shops.

Have you stayed onsite in the past though?
If so why not just use old magic bands for this trip vs purchasing new ones?

One question would be how would they check if the band still has power in it? If they are getting the photospass as an example they would need to have a magic band with power (last 2 years or so).

Is there a way to check this once you arrive at Disney?

Old bands (even with dead batteries) will work at all touch points. They would only be missing things like the 7DMT photos that don't have a touchpoint at the end of the ride.

Correct but my question is more around how do you know if your band still has power? So as an example I know we will get 7DMT photos and won't need to hit the touchpoints elsewhere? Is there a way to test this?

It would be nice if Disney started to allow you to opt in to the pucks only so you don't have to order a full new band and instead just the puck. It seems most new rides will start going without the touch points as well possibly?

Well if they do have one that is less than 2 years old then there is no problem.
If they are older than 2 years old the long range battery may in fact still work or they could simply purchase ONE new band vs one for each person.
