I am a teacher and I would like to have the students be able to create pod casts to share with each other. I am planning on applying for a mini-grant. I want to request a microphone and a basic laptop. Could I use a notebook for the pod cast? Is the snowball microscope a good choice?

You may have trouble recording with a microscope. Id recoment a microphone. lol
But id imagine anything you can run Audacity on would work.

There are lots of ways you can do this but a laptop and a good USB Condenser Microphone will do the trick.

You will also need a piece of recording/editing software like Audacity

Snowball is not a Mic I would recommend. I would recommend a Mic that has a way for you to hear the live "talkback" of the microphone.

Yes, you can use a notebook for podcasting. I use Adobe Audition to edit for work and you can save audio as mp3's, which is required for podcasting. The USB condenser mic and the Audacity software that k5jmh put up should also work as well.

May I ask what notebook you use? The grants are mini-grants so I don't want to ask for too much money because I don't want to be denied because of it. Do you think most notebooks out there will do the trick?

For voice only, you can use something as small as a netbook, but Laptops are getting cheap so looking at something a little more robust might be worth it.

I would get a Laptop with an I3 or I5 processor, 3+GB of Ram, and as big of a hard drive as you can afford (250GB or bigger) and lots of USB ports 4+.
