Basic Code/Discount Questions

My wife and I are taking our little girls to Disney World for the first time this December. We are looking to go December 8th - December 16th and stay at the Port Orleans Riverside resort.

We are wanting to make the reservations for the rooms in the next couple of weeks. We have the following questions and I am sorry if this information is available in other posts, but there are so many, even with search it is hard to find.

1.) If we reserve now, with AAA discount, can a Disney code be applied? I would be surprised if this was the case.

2.) If we reserve now, with no AAA discount, and say a code discount comes out in August for December, can we apply the discount to existing reservations? If it can be applied to an existing reservation, do we call Disney?

I really appreciate any answers you have in advance. This message board is unbelievable in terms of the information you can get from here. It is great.

It is my understanding (and I'm not sure I am correct) that the Disney code cannot be applied to AAA. I DO know that you can apply a code to an existing Disney reservation. But keep in mind that a certain number of rooms are blocked off for each code, so you MAY not be able to have the same resort. i.e. you may not be able to get a room with a code at one moderate, but they may still have rooms in another. This especially happens with the value resorts.

You can not apply a AAA discount and a Disney code at the same time.

However, I'm fairly certain that if you book a room only reservation with the AAA discount through Disney reservations, and a better Disney code comes out later, you can apply the Disney code instead. You'd call Disney to do this if you make your reservation through Disney -- if you do it through AAA or a travel agent, Disney can't make the change.

Keep in mind that Disney codes don't always apply to every hotel or every set of dates. As there are limited numbers of rooms for each kind of discount, including AAA, I'd make the room reservation with AAA (if available) as soon as you can. Don't skip the AAA discount now, assuming there are still rooms with the discount available when you call, because there's no guarrantee it will be available later. Keep an eye out for any Disney codes as we get closer to the fall, and, if one pops up for your dates, call to apply it as soon as possible.

Maybe one of the codes experts can give you a better strategy for this...

just call and book early and set your mind at ease that you will get the resort you want. (You can always switch later....as is my habit )
unfortunately, I didn't think to apply the code in time and I got blocked out

as everyone else said, you can't apply the code if you apply AAA, but you can apply a code, then apply a new code if it's cheaper even after your all booked...

We've had lots of luck booking with Dreams Unlimited travel. We have a ressie for November with our AAA discount, and they also watch for any codes that might apply for you. For example, I contacted them because we just purchased an AP pass, so if any codes come out, our agent told us she will watch for them! Hope this helps!
