Basic Banking Question

Anyone else buy into DVC, then have their world go crazy? I haven't had a chance to use points, or keep up with the news. Or even remember the basic DVC mechanics. Can you guys remind me how this works...

I have a September Use Year. All points from September 2006 were banked. So I have to use those points by end of August 2008, right?

I also need to bank my points from September 2007. Do I have until April 30, 2008 to do that, or do I have to do it on March 31st?


Assuming I bank by 2007 points, if I then discover I need a few extra (assuming my 2006 points aren't quite enough) can I borrow from September 2008 points?

Yes, points banked from a September 2006 use Year must be used by August 31, 2008.

DVC members have 8 months to bank their points. No points may be banked during the last 4 months of the Use Year. For a Spetember Use Year, the banking deadline is April 30.

Yes, if your current points have already been banked, you may borrow from the 2008 Use Year for a trip prior to September 1, 2008.

This is great info. I didn't realize about the last 4 months of the year rule. We are in the process of purchasing our first contract from the Timeshare Store. The contract has a September use year are there are some 07 points still available. Since we just signed the contract on Friday, I'm doubtful that we would be able to close by April 30 to bank the points ourselves. Since we won't be able to use the points this year, should we try to contact the seller to see if they can bank the points?

Call your agent and see if he/she will ask the seller to take care of this for you. Then you'll have to try to plan a trip to use those '06 points. (I'm in a similar situation, but at least I am purchasing a December contract - should have time to bank the '07 points, myself, if all goes well.)

DW and I banked all Dec. '07 UY points expecting to use developer points for Feb. '09 trip. Long story short, decided to use banked points for Feb. '09 trip and use developer points another way.

My question, if I book and go over my remaining developer points, can I borrow from '08 UY should I use more than my remaining dev. pts.????

As long as the reservation will be prior to December 1, 2008 - you should be able borrow from your 2008 Use Year and combine those with the Developer Points to make the reservation.
