Baseball-What The Spit?!

I find it very close to impossible to watch Baseball because of the CONSTANT spitting by the Players AND Managers!

Some of them look like a Water Fountain!

Is it a nervous "habit" to deal with the "stress"?

Do they think it makes them look "manly" and "macho"?

It is so disgusting and nasty!

I don't get it!

I think it started way, way back with chewing tobacco. Now they chew gum and sunflower seeds, and dirt and dust get in their mouths, too. Some of it might just be boredom. It also grosses me out.

I'm a huge baseball fan and I hate the non-stop spitting. Grosses me out the most when they spit *inside* the dugout.. you stand/walk there all the time..why would you spit where you/others walk?!
No relation to manliness or stress, imo... I agree with another poster that said it's an old practice that comes from the days of chewing tobacco where players used to spit the tar.. disgusting... it's definitely repulsive.

Another baffling practice is the butt slapping...really? you touching other players' behind? That's too personal, I wouldn't slap another person's behind unless I'm related to that person and they're either: a) ok with it or b) asking for it - baseball definitely carries a lot of old, bizarre traditions that feel really antiquated nowadays.

YES!The spitting in the Dugout is double gross!

I was watching the College World Series and one of the Players didn't spit with enough "force" and it just dribbled out onto his shirt!GROSS!!!!

No spitting is one thing that makes Women's College Softball such fun to watch.

The only spitting in Women's College Softball is by the Florida Gator's Head Coach-he must have a background in Baseball!

He will get this serious look on his face as he "works up a spit" and then he shoots it out between his teeth!GROSS!

All you Gators-please tell your Coach to stop the spitting-very unbecoming in front of all those young women!

I am watching the College World Series and remembered something else that irritates me about Baseball.

What's up with the Gold And Silver Chain Necklaces?

It's like they are part of the uniform-cleats,socks,pants,jerseys, caps and CHAIN NECKLACES!

They are playing a Baseball game-not headed to the Club on Friday night!

I've been watching some amazing CWS baseball. Yesterday Gage Wood (Arkansas) threw a no hitter! Only the third one on CWS history.
Tonight Arkansas is playing well, UCLA is scoreless so far. Bottom of the 7th, 5-0.
