We will be going to Disney in July for ds to play in a baseball tournament at Wide World of Sports. We are staying at All Star Sports. This will be our 11th Disney vacation but our first one on-site for the whole time. So, we are looking for any tips or advice for staying on-ste, making it affordable, and surviving a baseball tournament in July. We are really looking forward to the trip but would like hear from anybody who has been there, done that.

Any tips from former baseball tournament attendees to share?

Thanks,
Lori

Way before kids, we have done softball tournaments at the WWS complex. The complex is very nice and so are the fields. The baseball stadium is very nice if they are playing there or watching any games there.

We didn't rent a car, and found that transportation to WWS was very cumbersome/spotty. We had to bus to DHS then catch another bus to WWS.....and it seemed we waited forever to get a bus to leave the complex. Not sure if transportation there has improved much, but it may save your sanity to rent a car for those days. If not, give yourself plenty of transport time or budget in some cab rides. Also, this could be a very boring proposition for siblings that are in the bleachers -- and probably broiling hot for any onlooker -- I don't remember there being much shade.

We also found that food was a bit tricky...there was a snack shack at the field w/limited options, then a restaurant...no really good choices for a quick service, especially at early/late hours. Bring your own snacks!!

My son's team played in the Dec 07/Jan 08 tournament.
We stayed in CBR and the Mears busses came to our area, once
for dads and kids about an hour before game time, and once again
for moms and siblings, which worked out great. The one bus driver
was actually from our town and had retired to Florida.. :goodvibes
There were families that had their own vehicles, and they came
and went as they pleased, but also made it to the fields just fine.
My son's team is basically a year round team, so all the siblings
are used to being at games. My older daughters didn't always
come to the games; if they wanted to sleep in and go to the
pool while we were at the games, that was fine with me. Plus,
there were other siblings their age so they weren't alone.
We brought our own bottled water (which we had ordered from
Garden Grocer, and had frozen some in the little freezer
compartment) and snacks and pbj sandwiches but there was
a snack stand where we were (the 50-70 fields).
The kids had water or gatorade (either or both, not sure)
available in the dugouts. Some of the bleachers were covered
so you weren't in the sun all day but there were also open
bleachers (as far as I recall). We also went down a couple of
days earlier than the start of the tournament and stayed a
couple of days after so we would have strictly park days.
They had ice for the pitchers afterwards, there were trainers
in tents in case of injuries, and a few vendors selling gloves,
socks, belts, tshirts, etc. All in all, I think it was a great trip,
both the tournament part and the parks part. :yay:

some pics of our tournament and what the fields and area look like..If you're interested, PM me and I'll see if I can send them to you..
Ahh, the memories!! :goodvibes
