Baseball team fundraiser ideas

I would suggest a monthly 30 Day Raffle. You would sell or try to sell 1000 tickets numbered from 000 to 999. All tickets sold would be for a 50% share of the pot (number tickets sold) divided by 30 for each day winner. So if you sold 600 tickets at $ 5.00 each, the pot will be $ 3000.00. So each ticket sold would have 30 chances to win $ 50.00. The winning ticket could be tied to the winning three number draw of any State Lottery. The Club would be gauranteed 50% of the pot plus the winnings from any unsold tickets.

I was going to suggest the same thing. Our neighbor's son sold those for their HS baseball team.

The only reason I thought of it is because for the first time ever, I actually won one of those - and just got my $50 check yesterday. :thumbsup2

My take--I don't participate in fundraisers for travel teams, dance studios, etc. School teams/activities, yes, but not for places that charge a fee to participate and are 100% voluntary like that. Sorry.
Our middle school doesn't have a baseball team for several reasons, so travel ball is our only option for our son to continue playing the sport he loves and remain competitive when he gets to high school ball. I'm just saying it isn't necessarily 100% voluntary. Maybe try not to be so judgey :confused3

Have a restaurant night where you keep 10 percent of the money they take in. Lots of restaurants like this because they get lots of more business on a weekday. They usually want it done on the weekday. One of their slow days. In return you have some kids clean tables

Re: raffles. I remembered a thread about your organization having to be a registered charity in order to have one, I did some digging and found it:

So there's a REQUIREMENT that your son play baseball for some reason? Someone's forcing him to be on that team? Otherwise, it is 100% voluntary. It's an activity your family has chosen to participate in.

There's no Disney parks anywhere near where I live. So flying is "our only option for our kids to continue participating" in an activity they love. Should I do fundraising for our next vacation? Wouldn't even think of it because it's something our family has chosen to participate in.

I personally like when the kids are involved. My son played travel soccer until he was 16. They never did any fund raising at all. Parents just paid the price. Parents were even expected to volunteer for the league. Sorry, but 16 year olds are more than capable of cleaning the fields at the end of the day!
If the kids are willing to get out there and do something, I'm all for supporting them. I don't want to "buy" junk I don't need but I will get my car washed!

So politicians shouldn't fund raise to run for office? They don't HAVE to run.

And what we try to do, our travel softball team, is pick fundraisers that folks get something for their money, some sort of value to them (like a Coach purse bingo...lots of folks LOVE to come play bingo and try to win a Coach purse as we sell out almost every time). We don't just hold our hand out and ask for cash donations.

On that note, another recent find is Krispy Kreme donuts. You need to sell at least 25 boxes at $8/box (a dozen per box) and you keep $4/box. Very easy.

I, personally, hate to fund raise and lately will just pay our fees (for the travel team). But my DDs' HS team requires them to do a fundraiser that I hate. They have to sell coupon cards at $20 each and their school is 25 minutes away and all the places are near the school so our friends, family and neighbors aren't all that interested in the coupons. Sometimes it's just easier to buy X amount myself and give them away.

The best fundraiser here for my kids's sports is the one that comes with the buyout option so that we don't have to ask people to support a team/activity that they couldn't care less about. We do the buyout and are done.

The second best is the discount cards that my son has to sell for his HS team every July. His coach organizes the days the boys canvass the neighborhood in a "blitz sale" in their uniforms, and I don't have to worry about anything.

I feel that if your child wants to participate in something then you should pay and not expect other people to pay. Someone I know was fundraising so their daughter could go to Disney for a cheerleading competition- seriously?? If you want your kid to go to Disney then pay for them to go! We write out check after check for our kids to participate in Science Olympiads at school, they need money for supplies and to go to competitions, we don't ask others to pay for something that they want to do. It would be nice if the school funded it like they do sports equipment etc but that is another whole thread!

Wow. My son is in his 5th year of science Olympiad. I've only ever paid for the team shirt and some snacks to share at the practices. I never thought about that as an expensive activity.

Boy Scouts on the other hand costs us a huge amount. We pay for all the camping and trips the boys take. Plus equipment, uniforms, registration fees.... That seems to be a never ending drain on our finances. We have 2 boys to pay for and usually my husband goes too so we pay for 3. We didn't even bother with popcorn sales this year. It just bugs me to sell popcorn for a ridiculous price. I like service fund raisers so much better. Let them work for donations. We do soup suppers. That seems to bring in some money. We rent out party tents. The boys deliver and set them up for events. Unfortunately Boy Scouts has some silly fundraising rules so we have to be really careful what we do.

As you can see from some of the replies, you should expect some resistance and possibly some hostility within the community. We had very successful bingo events until the school/state (somebody) decided that bingo was gambling and therefore no longer permitted. We also sold those discount cards described above. I believe we did Domino's and Papa John's. We sponsored one pancake breakfast but that was a TON of work and I wouldn't recommend that.

One thing we did which tied in to baseball and it got the kids involved was that we were able to work concessions at a local Minor League baseball stadium and got 20% of the profits that night. The boys all wore their uniforms and served the sodas. If memory serves, they also got introduced at the start of the game and the "captain" of the team (voted just prior to that night) got to throw out the first pitch.

I agree with this - if the kids want to EARN money for their sport/activity, let them work for it!

Same here. 3 kids = a whole lot of money put into different sports. We spend thousands a year paying for our kids to do whatever they want to do - I cannot pay for someone else's kid too!

Aprilgail - does Science Olympiad bring any money into the school? Is there a "pay to play" fee for SO? I'm just wondering because most HS sports *do* have to pay to play AND they bring in money with ticket and concessions sales, which is where the majority of the money comes from to buy equipment and uniforms, and bus fees for away games/competitions. Just curious if your school is one where the team/activity actually supports their own programs' needs, or if money is actually coming from the school itself. If SO does not bring in money, I can see why the students/parents would be responsible for costs.

I'm glad you asked this question, OP. My DD needs to raise money for her swim team training trip to the Olympic Trials this summer. We have a swim team coming up and a 50/50 raffle or "chuck a duck" (where people throw rubber ducks into a hula hoop in the pool) usually brings in money.

Zombie thread. The kid involved is probably burned out of all sports after a season on a travel team.

My DD14 is in an expensive sport and she babysits to offset her costs. Around here babysitting is very lucrative. Also she walks dogs for neighbors and pet sits.

Who cares if it's a "zombie" thread? It's a highly relevant topic to many people. My daughter has been an athlete for 8 years and cannot get enough of sports. I don't see her burning out any time soon.

We're in the middle of trying to find news way to fundraise, BUT, it's for the town little league. The travel teams around here are actually all paid for with registration (its VERY expensive). For me, I would donate if it was an organization or sport that was near and dear. Others may do the same while many will not.

Dd17 plays varsity soccer. I buy his cleats, shin guards, and goalie gloves (about $500 a year), and the school provides a used uniform that he gives back. The baseball players buy their own equipment, basketball, track, tennis - I think football provides the padding. We pay a pay to play fee for busing, which I'm more than happy to pay. Dd14's xs cross country uniform was huge on her, but I could only pin it, since it had to be returned.

Nope- no money. but neither do sports and they are not permitted to do pay for play- it costs the school for uniforms, insurance, busing etc and they can't charge for games because no one even goes to see high school baseball or football for free! They need supplies for science Olympiads for competitions and since its a "club" they have to provide their own.
