My 7 year old has baseball tryouts this week and I need to get him a new glove, his T-ball one from last year is way too small.
Does anyone know what the average size glove needed for this age range? Other than the T-ball ones, they all look too big for him :confused3

My DD played softball in the spring and fall last year and I asked her coach the same thing. He said to take her to the store with me and let her pick the one that feels the best to her. They make a youth size that is larger than a T-ball glove and the one I got DD was really soft leather so she didn't even need to break it in.
He said the same about the bat too. "Whatever size she felt most comfortable holding and swinging". Although alot of the kids borrowed each others bats through the season.

I know it's just 7 yrs old but size (length) depends on position. There are differences in mitts for infielders compared to outfielders, beside the obvious difference of a catcher's mitt. Also, league that they play in. My son has played with a 11.5" mitt, this year he goes up to a different league and coaches last year said kids will needs a larger (longer) glove--this was told to us by my 15 (now) yr olds coach. He will have to go to a 13" I believe. My son is 13 and will be playing Babe Ruth league if that helps.

I think the one dh got for our ds who is almost 7 was an 11 or 11.5 (youth). they spent a lot of time together picking it out, trying on different ones, seeing which ones my son felt comfortable with.

Thanks for the link!
He is in Instructional this year so he will play all positions. According to my answers a 10 inch glove would work well. He is a little taller than average so I may go with the 10.5 or 11 depending on what he is most compfortable with.
Thanks everyone for your input :)

We found just a bit of research went a long way in making the right decision. That's how I stumbled upon that site (and their sister site originally justbats.com). There is some good info on there, the resource guide, on care and breaking in.

Is this his first year playing? Do you know what league? The reason I'm asking is to warn you to read up on the rules before buying a bat. Our league is following the college and high school rules and banning most composite bats. This originally affected the 13+ age groups (Babe Ruth), but then a week ago we got the email that they banned them from the Cal Ripken leagues also (A, AA and AAA).
