Baseball cards - what to do with them?

My father bought complete sets of baseball, football, etc. sports cards for my son each year between 1989-1992. They have been packed away in boxes and are still sealed (except for one set I believe). DS has no interest in sports or collecting cards - so it may be time to just sell the cards and put the money in DS's savings account. I recognize that there are some potentially valuable cards in the sets (like Sammy Sosa's rookie card, etc.). What is going to be the best way to sell these cards? Ebay as complete sets? Advice please!

My DH's den is wall-to-wall baseball cards! Some go back to the '70's, but most are the '80's & '90's. I used to say that was how we'd put our sons through college, but we didn't need it. I think the market isn't as good as it was a decade ago, but there might be buyers out there.

A local card shop?....Ebay?....

Ebay may work for the sets, but you may want to do some research on value first. Check out a place called Beckett. I'll see if I can find the set. They publish(ed) a magazine for years with the value of cards. http://www.beckett.com/default.osi

You may find that you get more by selling individual cards, but if you want to just get rid of them, ebay as a set wouldn't hurt.

Also, I belong to a sports message board that has a collectibles forum. They may be able to offer you even more info. If you'd like a referral there, feel free to PM me.
