Safe at home.

I'll have something to share on Thursday. :)

For Little Leage, first game is the 17th.

My DGS starts his season on Sunday. I am no longer a coach so I will be taking a lot of pics this year. Hopefully I'll have some good ones to share.

I have a few. :goodvibes

I finally got the lens I've been lusting after, the 50-200 f/2.8-3.5. This practice was my first outing with it. I had it on a tripod here. For the first games, I used a monopod, which gave me more flexibility in movement. The sucker is big and heavy, lol.

I am bummed-went to my nephew high school game-thought I might get a few shots (I thought the challenge would be fun-I am used to little league) They way the park is configured the only way you are getting a shot is if you have a p&s that you can put thru the fence. They have the standard 5 high bleachers so you can't get a height advantage, and seating only went about a third of the way to the bases.

It depends on the equipment you have a little bit though.

This was shot though the fence of the backstop, using f/2.8 opens it up wide enough that the fence "disapears" It does make it a little softer and if the fence is too relflective it doesn't work as well either.

Our little league season doesn't start for another few weeks. I'll have plenty starting at the end of the month and beyond.

Last night I took my oldest DS (he'll be 8 in 11 days) to his first MLB game. Venue: Fenway Park. Teams Red Sox vs the Evil Empire,,, I mean Yankees.

Sox lost, but it was a good game. Pretty close till up to the end. It even went pretty quick for a Sox/Yankees game. Lasted less than 4 hours.

Only time of year you see these trees in blossom:

Former Red Sox great Luis Tiant was hanging out at his food stand before the game:

I do have a picture of my son with him, but its still on my phone. I think I'm having some issues with my D300 that will need it to be sent in for some small repair. I took the camera out of the bag and it was showing a dead battery. I took the spare out and that was showing dead. WHAT!! Thing is, I checked both batteries before I left, and even took one right off the charger. After playing around with the batteries and the lens, I got it to work. I don't know if there is something with the lens (Tamron 17-50 f/2.8) or not. I put my 70-300VR lens on it worked fine, mostly. I did get the zero battery reading once with the 70-300. Didn't get it at all with the Sigma 10-20. But every time I put the 17-50mm on I had trouble. I was able to get it to work, but I missed the shot I really wanted. Thankfully I had my iphone and it takes pretty good pics. I'll get that uploaded eventually.

Here are a few others:

Vermont Native and 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Mogul Skiing Gold Medal Winner Hannah Kearney threw out the Ceremonial First Pitch:

She is a HUGE Red Sox fan. Under her coat at the medal ceremony she wore a Jacoby Ellsbury t-shirt to show her love of the Sox. So of course she threw the pitch to Ellsbury:

Got to the game to late for the Red Sox batting practice, but did catch the Yanks:

A-Rod after his stint in the batting cage:

Jon Lester pitched for the Sox:

Ellsbury led off for the Sox and got a hit:

Then stole 2nd:

A little blurry because the widest aperture I have on this lens (70-300 VR) is f/5.6.

After stealing 2nd and moving to 3rd on the wild throw by Posada, he scored on a SAC fly from Youkilis:

I probably could have gotten a better shot, but I was to busy cheering. :)

Kyle, those are great captures! I haven't been to a MLB game in years...never even been in the Great American Ballpark, shameful, I know.

Shortly after I bought it, I had a problem with my D300 and a false indication of a dead battery...exactly like you described. I went to the Nikon website and uploaded some firmware that took care of the problem. I don't remember exactly what I did, but you might want to investigate. I haven't had a problem since.

Baseball Season has begun! 161 more games to go until we get to October! 10mm on Canon 7D taken at the Juice Box (Minute Maid Park, Houston, TX)

If you look behind the backstop and see the lady with the head of big white hair, that is Barbara Bush with George H. W. Bush next to her.

Thanks Amy. I'll look into it. Something I thought about that could have also been the problem. I took the battery grip off (didn't want to walk into Fenway with to big of a camera). I keep my setting in camera to use the battery grip battery first, but never changed it to the D300 battery first before taking off the battery grip. I wonder if that screwed it up a bit. Though I never had that happen before. hmmm I'll definitely check out Nikon's site. Thanks again.

Nice work, Kyle! I imagine your son had a great time at the game! (Were the fans behaving themselves?? lol) We were there the next night. But we couldn't have been much farther away from the action and traffic was horrendous :headache: so we got there a little later than I like to and didn't have time to shoot some of the fun stuff outside and around the park. I'll have to see if I have anything post worthy.

We went to watch, and try to capture the fireworks from our Redhawks game last night (they are a triple A team). We waited untill it was almost over and went to the top floor of the parking garage on the next block and this is what I got with my 28mm. Its not the caliber of the current company on this thread, but I think I am slowly getting it. Have a wonderful day.

Our high school varsity team had the opportunity to play a game in the local minor league stadium (Dayton Dragons). We had awesome weather and they let me on the field for a team picture.
