Good news for SE Connecticut as BRAC committee voted 6-1 to keep the sub base open.

I am happy for the people at Groton. My husband works at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard which was also on the list. Thankfully the BRAC commission just voted 7-1 with 1 abstention to keep Portsmouth open, too!

We have a base up for closure in wisconsin too. It amazes me that congressmen who have never voted for any kind of militray expenditure in their careers, suddenly become hawkish when bases in their areas might be closed. oh the hypocrisy.

That is very good news. I've been to that base and was able to board a sub. It's a very cool place.

I don't know why they wanted to close it anyway since it is the only one of it's kind. Also, location wise, between NYC & Boston, if there was another large terrorist attact, it might provide extra security or help.
