Bartering, who does it and how?

So, I know I have heard of some people on here and on other boards I visit talking about how they barter to get a lot of stuff in return, baby sitting, cake making, etc.

Anyone do it, and how did you get started, what types of things have you gotten and offered?

We own an electrical contracting company and have bartered a number of things. The most important thing is to make the terms clear prior to the barter. Let the other party know what you are offering, the value, time period it will be completed in etc. & get the same info in return. We have bartered for an inground pool, paver patio surround with waterfall, pool cleaning and maintenance services, landscaping, and tile flooring. We have a backyard that looks like a tropical resort thanks to a bunch of good barters!

A few years back, I lost my dental insuranace for a short period. My dentist offered to take payment in the form of food from our pizzeria. It was his idea and it worked out great. Even though we have insurance again, we still do this to cover co-insurance costs when needed.
