Barry Manilow Refuses The View because of Rosie?

Well I am with him. I don't think that I would like to be interviewed by someone that is so far removed from my reality. And really an interview request of anybody but is not that divaish in my opinion. I have a couple friends in the "business" and your hair would curl over the request that are made. His seems reasonable. He chose to not be there and that is his right. I don't think he has to worry about publicity. And he certainly doesn't have $$ problems either. His shows still get packed. I have a friend that is a total Barry freak.(she is 42) and goes to any and every show he does within a 300 mile radius of her.
I don't watch the view so not an issue either way for me. I am a Price Is Right girl myself.

I'm not sure what this has to do with Rosie. No where do I see her name mentioned in the article.

I'm not sure that Barry wanted to be interviewd by the other 3 women and have Elizabeth leave during that segment. I think he didn't want to have her be the main interviewer of his segment. I have watched The View and on occasion, only one of the women would interview a certain guest. Maybe that is what they had planned for Barry and he didn't want the one interviewer to be Elizabeth. Frankly, if he got the feeling that he was going to be "attacked" by her for his political beliefs, I kind of don't blame him. I remember Rosie O'Donnell's ambush of Tom Selleck with regard to gun control a few years back when she had her own show and it wasn't pretty. The bottom line is that if he doesn't want to be interviewed, he doesn't have to be interviewed. He's willing to skip the chance to plug his album to one more audience because it is important to him to remain true to his beliefs.

I like Barry...always have. I like his music. boomhauer...I do know that Barry has a new album coming out. Maybe I am the one person in America that does. ;) If he is very far to the left, I do not agree with his political leanings (I tend to be more middle of the road), but he certainly has the right to have whatever opinion he wants, whether or not I agree with him.

I don't have a major problem with Elizabeth either...she has the right to express her opinions as well, and, quite frankly, as much as we listen to her blather on and interrupt sometimes, we have listened to Joy (currently), & Star and Rosie (in the past) blather on and interrupt with their opinons too. It's not just blathering on when the person you DON'T agree with does it, you know. ;) Interrupting is interrupting, whether it's a liberal or a conservative doing the interrupting.

Basically, they are all in "showbiz", so they are all bunch of divas. I mean, think about it, you have to have some ego to be able to get up and perform in public.

The View will live without Barry. Barry will live without The
View.

It seems that the show could easily have accommodated his request, though, by simply trying to schedule his segment on a day when Elisabeth was off on a personal day...she will be in the hospital or awhile to have a baby, I assume.

And in many of the interview segments, the only have 2 hosts doing the interview, usually Elisabeth and someone else...so what would be the big deal if they had two of the other hosts instead of Elisabeth?

They shouldnt have to. It is a ridiculous request IMHO.

It was Rosie, herself, who set the standard that if Elizabeth was not going to "be a friend" in the manner that Rosie found acceptable, then Rosie went so far as to leave the show and declare that Elizabeth had never been a friend. It seems that Manilow is just walking the line to keep his friendship with Rosie.

I don't think it was a ridiculous request at all, but a personal preference. Nothing says he HAS to grant an interview at all, he is well within his rights to make the request...I mean, if CNN wanted to interview me for some reason, I certainly would be within my personal rights to grant or deny the request, and if I were to personally request the the interview be conducted by a particular correspondent, and CNN declined my request, why would it be out of line to decline the interview?

I agree, but why didn't he make the request BEFORE he accepted the interview?

Susan Sarandon and Martin Sheen both appeared on the show and managed to be professional with Elisabeth despite having drastically different political views. I think Barry did this as a statement but I think it just makes him look unprofessional and intolerant.

Really I thought the same about Rosie...

Meh, I think the same thing about both of them.

Certain personality types grate on every last one of my nerves, regardless of their political affiliation. Really has nothing to do with tolerance or politics.

I guess I find it ridiculous bc if you agree to go on a show that has 4 interviewers than that is what you agree to; asking for individual interviewers that suit your own objective seems trivial.

I mean if he refused to go on Rush Limbaugh's show where he is the only one interviewing then maybe but what is Barry afraid of Elizabeth, please. As many say put on your big boy pants and face the music.:rotfl:

Good thing I guess that I am not an entertainer bc if I went with Barry's stance I wouldnt be able to find anyone in the media to interview me!:lmao:

key word PROFESSIONAL!

I dont like either one of those actors, they are entitled to their views, but if they can go on the show and deal with people who are different then they are then I appluad that!

I'm not a huge fan of Barry Manilow and I absolutely can't stand Elisabeth Hasselback, but this story doesn't make any sense to me. They both obviously have very different points of view, but isn't that what the whole shows about? They should both have a right to say whatever they want. Just because Barry, a liberal, was being interviewed by Elisabeth, an extreme conservative, doesn't mean that Barry would automatically be turned over to the other side. Today Elisabeth was speaking about how she believes the world may be flat  Just because she said it sure doesn't mean I'm gonna believe it (or even believe she could possibly think that's true :lmao:) Him being interviewed about his new album doesn't even have anything to do with politics.

Why should they? She is an employee of their show. Would you say the same thing if a performer only wanted to be interviewed by Sherri and Whoopi because they are black? Essentially it's the exact same thing - a performer making a stupid request based on nothing. Barry Manilow is a big boy - he's there to discuss his record, not the US policies on Iraq. I really don't see the problem with being interviewed by any of the women on the show in regards to where he gets his song ideas, who his favorite band was growing up, what the biggest influence on his life was, etc etc etc.

I think it's a publicity stunt-and it just might backfire.

If you can't talk pleasantly to people whose opinions differ from yours, you're never going to learn anything-and that goes for BOTH sides. If you can't respect the opinions and feelings of others, why should they respect yours?

MSNBC has Rosie's name all their story so they are the ones who brought Rosie up.

Exactly, she is an employee of their show, nothing more. And if I go to a grocery store and don't want a particular checker, or bank teller, or food server, I am well within my rights to go to a different checker, teller or server area, aren't I?

This is a good point. Say someone wants me to be on the Today show for my fantasic looks and ability to make all people love me (:rotfl: :rotfl: sorry--just dreaming here). I have the right to ask the Matt Lauer interview me and not Ann Curry. Nothing snotty about it at all.

I don't believe Barry said "I will not be on the View at all if Elizabeth is there", he just didn't want her to interview him.

She's more than an employee though. It's an interview and chat show based on the personalities of the various hosts. I am assuming you're not looking for a long-term relationship with your grocery checker  (if you are, please let those behind you know!) He is saying he will not be interviewed by someone with an opposing political viewpoint. That's just as idiotic as him saying he won't speak with anyone who is not gay, not black, not white, not Jewish, etc etc etc.

I'm getting ready to go to Vegas, and I was debating on paying big bucks to see his show. Having read this, though, I'm sure he doesn't want my money since we hold different views. I just saved myself hundreds of dollars.

I love his music, but I think this is going to backfire on him.

Go Barry! Maybe he wanted to avoid EH because she is pregnant and he would not want to tell her what he REALLY thinks of her..;)
