Barry Hussein????

I've noticed a few people here on the Dis refer to President Elect Obama as Hussein or Barry. I was also listening to Rush Limbaugh the other day and heard him call Obama by his middle name Hussein. I'm just wondering is this supposed to be some type of insult. :rotfl: I understood the reason for doing this before the election was over but I guess I just don't get it now. :lmao: I always chuckle when I see him being referred by those names because the posters seem to be so proud of the fact that they call him Barry or Hussein.....I am an Obama supporter and it honestly makes me laugh when I see it....I always think to myself you can call him Barry or Hussein all you want but just remember that it's President elect Barry Hussein (I actuallly love the sound of it) :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
I think sometimes people call him by those name to deliberately be disrespectful....maybe it makes them feel better to do that, but it's wrong.

It's not always about intentions. And you know that.

You, personally, may not mean it to spread hate, or to imply that Barack Obama is some sort of Muslim terrorist, but others do.

Calling him "H", or "Barry", etc. is disrespectful...period. And you know that too.

It's a little dig in his direction and in the direction of his supporters.

Sort of like all those people who say he isn't "their" President.

And if you find no disrespect in these actions, well, I just don't know what to tell ya'.

I, personally, feel that those with upstanding character, even those who disagree with Barack Obama and his election, could see the rudeness and pettiness involved. But, that's just me. :hippie:
So far I haven't heard anyone say he isn't "their" president. Last time I heard that was when it was about Bush. Anyone that doesn't think he is their president is welcome to leave, in my opiniion.

If someone wanted to get technical, they could say he isn't our president yet, but he is our President Elect. I didn't vote for him this time around, but he will be my President soon.

I do find it interesting all of the people that are "outraged" because others are calling him Hussein (his actual middle name), "H" (personally makes me think of CSI Miami, but what the heck), Barry (the name he actually used to go by), but had no problem with seeing or actually calling our current President Dubya, Shrub, ect., ALL of which are meant to show disrespect. Where was the outrage then? Oh, yea, it was patriotic to show disrespect then, it was about freedom of speech, etc. Yea, yea yea. :cool2:

Please note that I do not refer to him by using his given name of Hussein, but rather (sometimes) by the middle initial H. Now for those of you who can take that and extrapolate it out into some sort of statement about my character and/or intentions, all I can say is "Wow". FTR I hope the guy succeeds too. I don't think he will, but it takes a coldhearted son-of-a-gun or a crackpot to actually hope for the suffering or demise of her/his own country. Last time I checked I am neither.

We've had to put up with eight years of internet hilarity in which 43 was referred to as dubya, shrub, etc. I hardly think 44 being referred to as H is worth all the cannon fodder that's being unleashed on this thread. However, it is your inexorable right as Americans or other assorted DISers to leap to any conclusion you want. So don't let me stop you.

I applaud you for your standing up for your beliefs and your decision to hope for the best.

I am curious why you chose to ignore the comment about your signature (on this thread anyway)?

Yeah, kind of like calling Bush "dubya." Not W, but dubya. It implied "stupid hick" and we heard eight years worth of it. Now these same people are acting holier than thou about Barack Obama's middle name. Hysterical!

I got the "Dubya" from George W Bush himself on November 4, 2000...

George W. Bush said:
After all he claimed he invented the Internet. But if he's so smart, how come every Internet address begins with "Dubya"?

http://www.dubyaspeak.com/audio.phtml?year=2001 the audio clip is about halfway down.

Calling a President, or anyone for that manner, a name that is "meant to be" disrespectful, is just wrong....no matter who it is. And we all know that calling him Hussein (even though it's his middle name) is "meant to be" disrespectful. It's all about the intent of the word. Some of the names that Bush has been called are disrespectful and mean, and that's wrong too. Doesn't matter if you agree with what he has done or not done as President, he is still a human being.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with using Obama’s middle name or initial… it IS his name. If there are those who would like to ignore this fact, it is an exercise in futility. He will go down in history as President Barack Hussein Obama. That is a fact, like it or not.

If some were using it in pre-election rhetoric to “scare” ignorant voters that he was somehow a terrorist, then that is just plain stupid (stupid to say it, and stupid to believe it). I wish we could ban stupidity, but sadly, we can’t.

Using W for Bush is fine too. He used W in many of his adds. And, it IS his middle initial. It was also a convenient way to discern him from his father, HW.

Anyone claiming to be offended by “Hussein” is showing his or her own prejudice. There is nothing inherently wrong with the name Hussein.

By the way, I know a realtor whose name is Pat Mahiney. :upsidedow

The prejudice that folks objecting to the fear-mongering use of the name Hussein is prejudice against fear-mongering. :teacher:

Don't try to justify such cynical and disrespectful behavior. No one with a modicum of decorum refers to President Carter as "James Earl". The folks who are in the wrong here are the folks who are referring to Obama by his middle name specifically to play on the prejudices of Americans with myopically anti-Arab tendencies. It is indefensible.

Well said. :thumbsup2

Baloney!!
The use of his Hussein in the place of his first name is done for 1 reason and 1reason only. To imply an element of "fear". Period. No one walks around calling George W bush "Walker" or even "W" in place of George. The only reason it's George W is to differentiate between George H. Bush.

People who call him Hussein do not do it as a compliment.

When did I say "in place of his first name"? :confused3

All I said was there is nothing wrong with the name "Hussein". And, there isn't.

Thank you Zippa for changing your signature to include the allies who helped to set those countries free. Sad that you had to get permission from the Con thread to do it, but I'll take what I can get.

It seems like most of the presidents since I've been an adult have had nicknames and been made fun of.
