Barry Hussein????

Don't try to justify such cynical and disrespectful behavior. No one with a modicum of decorum refers to President Carter as "James Earl".

The folks at Georgia Southwestern State University have no decorum? http://www.gsw.edu/~library/ The "James Earl Carter Library" seems like a wonderful place.

Further, countless biography sites use the full name. http://www.geocities.com/heartland/2328/jec.htm
http://www.usahistory.com/presidents/ja-e-ca.htm
http://www.let.rug.nl/usa/P/jc39/about/jecbio.htm

I do not disagree with your larger point and the specific use of Hussein to incite fear and associate him with terrorists. Nevertheless, it is quite common to use the full names of our presidents. Should we never, under any circumstances, use the word Hussein when referring to Obama? Who decides?

People who call him names other than the one he goes by remind me of unimaginative immature children who say inflammatory things hoping to get a rise out of another because they aren't clever enough to come up with anything else. I've decided to just ignore them much like I would ignore an immature child trying to score an insult but actually looking stupid and falling flat on their faces. It really says a lot more about the intellect of the name caller than the person on the receiving end.

This quote is taken from another thread as part of a question:

Nope, al qaeda and the republicans have the same complaint about Obama-media bias? So isn't that palling around with terrorists, since there's an association? See how Palin's thoughts creep into daily life?
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

It's a sad day for the Republicans when their so-called "enemies" are spouting off the same talking points, electing Obama really did bring change to America. That is why Al Qaida backed John McCain: they knew he would be another Bush-like President keeping us in endless war that would bankrupt our economy, and Al Qaida could have attacked us at free will. But with Obama's win, who looks like them and who has three names (Barack Hussein Obama) that they could relate to, and policies that work against them, their cause for religious war is defeated.

The above is from an Obama supporter. So it is okay to use his middle name if you support him and it's not okay if you don't?

These are probably the same people who still drive around with "W" stickers on their car. To them, politics and the future and reputation of America don't matter. They view elections and political parties like high school cliques.

I totally agree. This is what I thought about those who referred to our current President as "W".

I think if anyone asked Barry Hussein about this he would find it humerous!

Maybe if you used his full name, Barry Hussein Obama. Trying to make it sound like he's related to Saddam by making his middle name (his grandfather's first name) sound like a last name is just juvenile.

So far I haven't heard anyone say he isn't "their" president. Last time I heard that was when it was about Bush. Anyone that doesn't think he is their president is welcome to leave, in my opiniion.

If someone wanted to get technical, they could say he isn't our president yet, but he is our President Elect. I didn't vote for him this time around, but he will be my President soon.

I do find it interesting all of the people that are "outraged" because others are calling him Hussein (his actual middle name), "H" (personally makes me think of CSI Miami, but what the heck), Barry (the name he actually used to go by), but had no problem with seeing or actually calling our current President Dubya, Shrub, ect., ALL of which are meant to show disrespect. Where was the outrage then? Oh, yea, it was patriotic to show disrespect then, it was about freedom of speech, etc. Yea, yea yea. :cool2:

If you haven't seen anyone say he isn't "their" President, then you haven't read some of the threads on this here DIS. I can name off a few DISsers who have stated this very thing.

"He's not MY President. He's just a place holder."

No one cares who says the name - it's the inference that's the issue. Are you saying his name, because it’s his name or are you saying his name to infer that he is Muslim, a terrorist, or something nefarious? Are you preying on the ignorance of the people or are you stating the name because it means good, handsome one. Are you using it like ‘W’ is used – no inference there. ‘W’ was used to separate the Bush father and son name.

It was ignorant when it was said by those from the left and it's just as ignorant as from those on the right. Unless they plan on giving up their citizenship. He isn't the president I would have chose, (then again neither is McCain, he was lesser of 2 evils) but he still won the election and will be my president. I hope he is very successful and is a good president for the next 4 years.

I wish him the best, because the thought of Dementia Joe becoming president scares the hell out of me. If he had received the same scrutinity that Sarah Palin had from the MSM, she would be considered extremely intelligent by comparison. The man doesn't even know what century he's in.

"It was ignorant when it was said by those from the left and it's just as ignorant as from those on the right."

What was ignorant? The disrespect shown to the current POTUS and the new President Elect?

And then in the same breathe...you call him "Dementia Joe."

Sorta negates your whole ignorant argument, eh?

As for Palin, I'm not one of those that subscribes to the Sarah Palin is dumb club. I don't take issue with her intelligence. Her closed-minded beliefs and hateful demeanor make me want to gag...but I don't think she's unintelligent.

As for you calling Joe Biden, "Dementia Joe"...how nice. :flower3: As someone whose life work has provided an opportunity to work with this population and see the heartache and devastation that can come from this condition...I hope you understand how rude and hateful that comment was. It's not funny...not even in a joking manner.

I work in a Senior community. I wasn't joking. Every nurse who I know who has watched him on the campaign agree with me. He shouldn't be out and about. He has difficulty understanding time, days, years. The thought that he is one heartbeat away from the Presidency scares the hell out of me.

And, logically, no it doesn't. They are 2 different subjects. The ignorance was someone saying "he's not MY president".

If you work in a senior community and have had the experience in working with these patients, then you know your statement is bunk. Because I have worked specifically in adult acute rehab on the brain injury team. Specifically, my experience included stroke, TBI, alzheimer's, and dementia. In fact, I was responsible for evaluation of these patients, and my reports often contributed to the diagnosis of dementia. Joe Biden does not have dementia. A gaffe is one thing...I'll give you that. He's had some big ones. Dementia is something entirely different...and you should know that if you work with this population.

I stand by my statement. Posting something such as "Dementia Joe" after making statements against ignorance...:rolleyes1

I too work with dementia patients and to compare them to Biden shows a lack of experience with this population.

I agree with those wishing Obama health (and safety) in the next four years because as much as I am concerned about what an Obama presidency might bring, the thought of Joe Biden as the pres scares me out of my wits! He seems like a truly good man, but he's not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed. I worry about his mental state. Really, Obama is a very smart man, why did he choose Joe Biden? He could have made a better choice, but what's done is done.

You will not catch me saying Obama is not my president. I believe in our system. The public chose him, so he is our president. I wish him luck and hope he is successful. If he fails then American fails. I would never root for my beloved America to fail.

Abso-friggen-lutely.

...and you should know that if you work with this population.
Indeed.

I'm not really a fan of Joe Biden, but there probably wasn't a better person for the job. He has all the requisite qualifications, and provided in-roads into several political bases, while not being a significant distraction from Obama as the candidate (like Hillary would have been).

I also smile when I see President elect Obama called Barry on these boards because when I was growing up we only called someone by thier nickname if we were close friends or were very fond of the person. :)
