I posted something similar to this on the WISH board but I think this is more appropriate. . .

I am quite overweight right now (5'6", 245) and have never been this heavy in Disney World. I'll be going in a few weeks with my nieces, and the older one (6) is very excited about going on Goofy's Barnstormer with me--she knows I like roller coasters, and every other adult going with us balks at riding even a mild coaster like Barnstormer.

Two questions: I have been on the ride and remember the seats being kid-sized. Will we have trouble fitting? (She is typical 6 and skinny.)

Also, is there a bar that comes across the seat? I fear that the bar will stop on my large body leaving her unprotected.

Thanks.

The ride is definitly kid sized!
When we went, I was a lot thinner than I am right now and I had a tough time sitting in the seat comfortably with my son. My hubby, who is 5'6" and weighs roughly 200lbs sat by himself on the ride and looked squashed on the ride! I don't remember if there was a bar or anything although I think there was.

Would a different coaster be okay for her(if you couldn't do the barnstormer)? I know that my son can ride every ride now and he is almost 7 if height is an issue for your niece. Also, you can check the Disney website they might have more info for you. If you can't find any info there, call Disney. They should be able to give you some info on the rides.
I hope this helps you and I hope you and your nieces have fun on your trip!:)

DH and I both have a lot of excess front and we've ridden Barnstormer without too much problem. I would just take her on Big Thunder Mountain RR, though. We took our DGD when she was nearly 6 and she loved it. We rode 9 times in a row the first day. She had never ridden a roller coaster before that.

Thanks. I should mention that Panda Bear (my niece) is afraid of almost EVERYTHING but not Barnstormer--I don't think she'd go on any of the "real" coasters and I am not sure her parents would even let her.

I can't remember the seat exactly, but I know it was tight. This was the only ride where we couldn't fit three-- two was quite a squeeze. Also, the ride was very uncomfortable and I had bruising all along my back afterwards. When we got off the line picked up and the kids said they didn't mind skipping it. We all enjoyed BTMRR better. (My 2 year old couldn't do any of the other "big" rides, which is why we tried the Barnstormer.)

If your niece is 6 and wants to ride a coaster with you, I also think you should just try BTMRR. It's a much longer ride and you won't have to worry about getting in and out of the seat.

BTMRR does only have one bar, so you may want to keep a hold of her. (She won't fly out, but it will let her feel more secure-- at least for the first ride.) If she gets very adventurous after that you may want to try Expedition Everest if she's tall enough (44"). That one you sit next to each other, but there are two separate bars to hold each person securely.

Oh, the height requirement for BTMRR is 40", I think Barnstormer is 35".

**Edited... Sorry, I didn't see you other comment before my post. It does look scarier, but BTMRR is really fun if she changes her mind.

That's true-it looks scarier but it really isn't. Barnstormer will rattle your bones a lot more than BTMRR.

I'm not tiny, but I sat with my dd and didn't have too many issues. It was more my hips than anything else. That ride is NOT made for child-bearing hips.

My DH is not a small man but any stretch of the imagination (over 6ft and about 250 lbs) and he went on with DD (age 2) over and over again. She loved it!

The Disney "rule" (former CM space mountain) is that any lap bar must "click" once for a guest to ride. CMs are very creative at getting this to work for guests (I had a great trick of moving guests to the front seat and having them sit kindof sideways) but it definitely is not comfortable! The largest seat is definitely Thunder and Splash doesn't have a lap bar at all. My three year old (50th percentile in height) is tall enough for Thunder so I would encourage you to go that direction. Also, if you really love coasters, Rock n' Roller (48 inches required) is great and they even have a little seat to "take pictures on" out front that you could try. Just don't forget the "one click" rule! Have a great time.

Thanks. I guess I should clarify that
A) I've been on all these coasters--though haven't been on Barnstormer in a while, and I would prefer to have her on Thunder Mountain in a minute. . . but it just isn't going to happen. We'll be with an overprotective Grandma, who freaked out so badly on a ferris wheel once they had to stop it to let her off halfway through her ride.
B) We're not going to Hollywood Studios--we're doing a day at Epcot (don't ask me why; it wouldn't be my first choice with two little kids), one at MK, and one at Sea World. Additionally, I will be heading to AK on my own to ride Everest, which I will also hopefully fit on.

You'll be fine. I rode it last month with DS3. I'm a big girl (that's me on the left in my user pic...towering over my family and the mice). I'm 5'10 (long legs...it wasn't super comfy on leg room), and I'm in a 26 right now :upsidedow. DS3 is, well, three year old-sized. It did stop on my lap after a few "clicks," but I put my arm around DS3, and it was just fine. No worries!

As far as EE, I rode it several times in December, too. We usually do single rider, and one time I ended up next to a man much bigger than I am. He was about 6'3. I'm no good at estimating weight, but he was a big guy...like beyond football player big. We both fit fine, even right next to each other. He was one of the more animated EE riders, too. It was amusing.

ETA: I don't really have a protruding stomach or "bum-bum." The "big" is about even all over , but I still think you'd be ok if you put your arm around her.

I asked DH (he's 6'4" and 260) about it. He rode w/our 8 yr old (petite -only 50" and 50lbs) and he said there was a gap from the bar so he just held on to her. Both enjoyed it.

Hi - Sounds like we are about the same size. I rode this with 4 year old 49 lb nephew last week and we were fine. There were lots of clicks to get it to stop on me, and I put my arm around his shoulders (to keep him secure and also to protect his head from the hard back of the seat - its shoulder level to us, but to him it was behind his head). We had a great time! I fit on all the rides at Disney, and so does DH who is about 5'11 and 300plus lbs (big tummy/chest).....go and enjoy yourself!!!!!!!!!!:thumbsup2
