Ok, so the Nook price has dropped and I have some questions. There are 2 Nooks and I guess I am not sure which one I should chose. The regular WiFi Nook is $149.00 and the Free 3G WiFi Nook is $199.00. I have wireless internet in my house. Here are my questions:

1. What exactly is "3G"?

2. Is 3G a necessity to connect to my wireless network at home?

3. For all you Nook owners out there, which one would you chose and why?

4. I don't visit coffee houses, etc. so will I need the 3G Nook or is the regular WiFi Nook enough?

Thanks for helping me out with this! Any information is appreciated!

3g means you can get access anywhere (pretty much).. Think cell phone with data plan.

wifi means you connect at home or hotspots like airports, cafes, etc.

If you travel a ton you might want the 3g.

For most folks, an e-reader like this the wifi would be fine. How often do you have to connect to the 'net?

Thanks for the info! I don't connect to the net except at home. I am assumming if I go for the 3G one, then I can connect all the time whether I am at home or elsewhere. I think I will go for the 3G. Thanks again for clarifying. I am not so tech savy! Believe it or not, I just got my first cell phone EVER 2 weeks ago, LOL! Thanks again!!

The 3g is free on the Nook so for the $50 I would suggest that.

Their new price drop will put them over the Kindle, I think.

You can connect with the $149 version anywhere there is wireless, so honestly, I see no advantage to paying extra for the 3G.

I bought a nook 11 days ago and will be returning it today for the cheaper version.

I think B&N is going to be seeing a lot of unhappy people today.

Well for $50 more I think the advantage of FREE 3g is worth it. There is a browser on it, so if I am at the soceer field and needed to look something up quick, bingo. Or if I am somewhere else that does not have wifi.

Again for $50 and no monthly fee that is pretty nice to have access to the 'net on top of the e-reader.

I would be suprised if Barnes and Nobles gives you any money back. Let us know if that happens though. Interesting to see how they approach that.

Yes. I think Amazon needs to lower their price now that there are other ereaders out there that are lower priced.

Since I use my nook as an ereader only, having the 3g capabilities mean nothing to me.

I have wireless at home that I use. I don't feel the need to be connected 24/7, nor do I plan on using my nook as an iPad.

And since I'm within the 14 day return window, they have no choice but to refund my money for an exchange. ;)

Okay, here's the scoop. :)

I called B&N with a question about my warranty on the nook. I was wondering if it would transfer to the new $149 purchase.

They do not have the $149 models available in the stores yet ~ only for pre-orders (and who knows how long it will be before they show up in stores). And I would not be able to exchange my warranty on my current nook for a new one, since the warranty is apparently different.

So the manager I spoke with (who I'm guessing has been taking a lot of calls today ) said the best thing to do would be to bring in my original receipt and they would refund me $10 (price difference between what I paid and the price of the new one).

So, even though I'm a bit annoyed about it, I'll take in the receipt and get the $10.

I'm keeping my current nook for one reason only ~ I don't want to be without it for who knows how long. :rotfl:

Online they are shipping in 24 hours.

I called one store near work they said they did not have them in, but another one about 20 mins north of there did. So sounds like they are getting inventory.

I am going to pick up the 3g one later this week.

Personally I'd save the $50 and go with the wireless one. I have an iPhone, so I wouldn't need and extra 3G capable one anyway, let alone we can't get 3G in my town.

Since I already have a Kindle with 3G, I'm spoiled so I'd never buy a Wifi version. Not having to find a hot spot to download is pretty nice.

Maybe I am misunderstanding this, why would you downgrade when it's only $10 more for the Nook with the 3G?

It's still not $150, though.

I'm waiting till the price drops to $50. ;)
I waited till I could get a (generic brand) MP3 player for $30. My latest one was $15. I can't believe all the drones who bought one for $300+ when iPods first came out. They didn't have the features they have today, If you dropped it, the screen cracked or the drive got corrupted & lost all the songs, etc. :headache: Expensive electronics become obsolete 6 months after they come out. There are some things worth paying for when they are new. For me, this isn't one of them.

I understand wanting a cheaper price Imzadi -- but in the going on 2 years I've owned my Kindle I've had the pleasure of reading a couple hundred books on it and I've amassed a digital library of over a thousand books. My Kindle isn't obsolete at all, it still reads books just the way it was intended to be used and it can read all the newly released ebooks just the way all the new models can.

We've also done away with most of our paper books ... no more dusting bookshelves and finding room for the stacks and stacks of books. By the time you get your $50 Kindle I will have spent countless hours reading on my Kindle. I sincerely believe it is one of the best purchases I've ever made in terms of hours of quality use.

I have no regrets at all that I spent over $300 right away instead of waiting for the cheaper models. And when your $50 digital reader finally makes an appearance, I'll probably buy one of those too.

I didn't downgrade. ;) That was what I got in a price adjustment from Barnes and Noble since I just bought my nook.
