Bargain Shoppers...am I alone????

I need a little reassurance that others feel the same as I do or at least not the way the person I describe below. When I find a great bargain I like to share (brag?) with everyone. Also, I've always felt a little guilty buying things for myself so I have to justify the purchase with everyone.

So I had some people over the other day and someone mentioned this beautiful handblown bowl I just got. I explained how I was shopping at this store having a huge inventory sale and found this bowl, which was the last in the series clearanced 90 percent off. Someone said if I didn't tell everybody how much I really spent on something they would have more respect for me. I never took it that way but she said by me telling everyone the great deal, they look at it as "cheap" instead of "quality". She also said it makes people question how much I spend on gifts.


Do you think I should just keep my finds to myself from now on? I just get sooooo excited when I find something really nice and a great deal. (like tonight I took my daughter to buy some bedroom stuff and found a beautiful sheet set regularly $23.- marked down to $4.-)

I like to hear success stories like these. I don't know why anyone would have less respect for you or no longer consider the item to be "quality". The quality doesn't change no matter what you spent for it.

Some people just have too much time on their hands and seem to use it to find ways to complain.

Now, for the important question. WHERE did you get that great sheet set?

I like hearing about it every once in awhile. Especially the really good deals, but I suppose I can see how that would get a bit annoying after awhile. I'm not sure. With those people that made the remark, I wouldn't tell them anymore. But I know how exciting it can be so I'm one of those I have to tell SOMEONE types of people. So I guess just find someone who is actually excited or wanting to hear about it as much as you're excited telling it, if there is a person. If not, hey, you're always welcome to tell us. I don't mind.

I don't think you need to keep it to yourself, I think you need new friends. Seriously, who says something like that? I share my great finds with people too. My friends now come to me first when they're looking for something to see if I know where it might be on sale.

As for her questioning how much you spend on gifts, if you're giving a great gift, why should she care if you only spent a fraction of the original cost on it? It's still a GREAT gift!!! My friends and family LOVE it that I get such good deals, that way they get way nicer things than I could normally afford to buy them.

I love finding great deals and will tell people how something was "50% off and additional 25% off that" and I notice my friends will be happy for me but some people, usually coworkers or some relatives will not seem so impressed. You can tell by the sort of raised eyebrow expression they give. But my good friends love to hear of a great sale and will want to go check it out for themselves. I've learned which people are store 'snobs' and who might look down on buying something on clearance and those I just don't tell at all that I've even gotten anything new.

By the way, I just got some Uggs slippers at the mall for only 25$

I think it depends on who you are telling. I have a couple of good friends I would share a good buy with, as well as my mom and MIL. Other people, not close friends, I probably wouldnt tell.

My 7 year old and I were talking about something she wanted last week. I told her NO, it wasnt on sale, and I wasnt paying full price. She said "mom, do you ever buy something that isn't on sale?". Rarely.

I'll be really honest, I very rarely will buy something full price, because usually it goes down in price. That is except for disney stuff at the parks, unless you are a cm or have a cm friend who will take you to the cast store. Honestly though, really thinking about it, I think the ony thing I really buy full price are disney pins and that is not by choice, even my collectibles I dont pay full price, unless it is something I mudt have.
As for clothing................ well if it isnt on sale, I dont really need it, well unless I need a last minute outfit for an event or something, but I tend to buy it really cheap. Same thing for purses, it is so ironic you bring this up. I love coach purses and I will NOT buy a fake, but I wont pay full price. Lucky there are outlets for coach, burberry and dooney and burke. Those are my favorite, but then again you have to watch outlet, because sometimes they arent cheap. I dont mind telling people when I get a deal, and I dont care what people think because the money I saved can either buy me another thing or two purses instead of one. Just because someone paid full price doesnt make them any better, to me it is stupid especially when you can get it cheaper.
I have no problem, saying wow I got a great deal on this or that, I think the negativity is from jealousy. It doesnt matter what you spend when giving gifts, it is the thought that counts. So what if I got you a coach bag for 75% off, it doesnt make the bag any less. And besides when you get a great deal, you can give a more expensive gift, and some people meausre the value of the gift by the price, and they wont even know u spent alot less than they thought
