mattresses, seriously the bargain shopper in me hates looking for things that I know nothing about, I mean I don't shop for them enough to know what a good price is???

So where is a good place to shop for a mattress?? I'm in need of a Queen and Fullsize. Can you even buy fullsize anymore?

If you are looking to buy this weekend I highly recommend Big Lots. They are running a promo where if you purchase the mattress then you get the box springs for $10. These are serta mattresses and are really nice depending on the price you are willing to spend. We purchased our set at Sam's for almost double what we got our daughters same size/type that we purchased at Big Lots for her. I believe the 'model' is the Bellewood or Bellemont or something similar. Thinking it was on the TV ad for around $350 for both. HTH!

Go to a furniture or mattress store and lay down and try the various ones out. There is a huge variation in price, style and comfort and everyone is different. Every mattress/boxspring we have bought in the past 10-12 years have come from Sams simply because they had some of the best prices on well known brands. Two draw backs--you can't try them out before purchase and there's usually only 1 maybe 2 choices. But that being said, they have been comfortable so I can't complain.

After visiting the stores, decide what's most important--the amount you spend or your comfort at night. It's not a bargain if it makes you miserable or you regret buying it.

Happy shopping...we're thinking about a new set too-only king size

Sears is running a sale through Labor Day. They have a deal, too, that if you sleep on the mattress for 30 days and decide it is not comfortable, they will take it back, less 15% for restocking. You can do this once.

WOW - that is really cheap at Big Lots! I have to get a twin mattress for my DD4 - I want it to last a long time. Anyone have any idea of what Serta one to get?

I saw the ones on sale at Big Lots, too. I just worry about that low of a price. Does any one know if these are good mattresses? I would rather pay more than regret what I get.

We bought serta mattresses (300) at Big Lots when we first got married. Granted, it was 10+ years ago so they may have improved the quality, but ours was definitely a cheaply made mattress. After about 6 months we had to add an egg crate topper to make it more comfortable. A good mattress is definitely an investment, but you can almost always find them on sale somewhere. We bought our current Sealy king pillowtop during a "get a king for the price of a queen" sale. I think it was around $1200. It is comfy but I wish we had gotten a firmer one. I like plush, but after 4 years it is becoming a little too plush.

All of our mattresses have come from Macy's. Look for the sale/clearance ones. Last year I bought a single for our son's bed, regular $799 marked down to $79. Our pillowtop was around $500 delivered several years ago.

Do you need box springs or are they ok? We hit a large local furniture chain 18 months ago and got a great deal on a queen mattress from their clearance section. We only needed a mattress since our box spring was so good and they had a mix & match section. We just tied it to the top of our car and headed home. You couldn't beat the price!

We just got a Queen set for $599 from Bob's Discount Furniture. We're very happy with the comfort and quality.

We were in the market for a new mattress about a year ago. I heard so much about the "foam" temperpedic. I liked it my husband was not sure and did not want to spend the 3000 on it SO i went to Overstock and they sell tons of foam and i'm sure regualr mattresses - people write reviews anyway i decided to buy a foam mattress from them and spend about 500 - we figured we would try the foam, and if we haated it, it would still be better than what we had at the time, and we could always go back to the traditional mattress in a year or so. Anyway we are VERY Happy w/the Foam and for 500 bucks a great deal - check it out!!!!!!

I know most people don't want to buy used mattresses and I wouldn't either from a used place or online, but you might put the word out to friends.

I have gotten our last 2 sets of mattresses when close friends were getting rid of them. I trust them as I have been in their homes.

So, you might ask around.

DH and I went to a local mattress shop. We told them our price and what we were looking for. We got a cal king mattress and box spring for less than $900 with free, friendly, delivery. :cool1:

I don't know much about shopping for mattresses, but DH and I learned you can bargain. We went to Metro Mattress a few weeks ago after DD climbed out of her pnp. It was time for a big girl bed. The bed was was $450. We were very hesitant. The guy said it had been on sale the week before for $350 and there were still some left from that particular sale pack. So he called and got the ok to give us the sale price. We were still hesitant. Said we were going to think about it, look around and come back later. He asked where we wanted to be price wise and what price he could give us that would get us out the door then with it. We said we were looking more in the $200-$300 range. He made another call and got it for us at $250. It was painless. He wasn't super pushy and was really willing to work with us. It was great. We didn't even go in expecting to haggle about the price. We were simply hesitant because it was so expensive, wanted to call some family members, etc. He was eager to get us a better price.

We did not have the same experience w/ our king. We paid over a grand for it at Ashley Furniture, no bargaining. We'll probably shop around at the big stores next time and end at Metro with an idea of what the competition is offering.

So, long story short, (too late), don't be afraid to haggle or just appear hesitant so they offer a better deal.
