And, where do you draw the line? If I never say the F word (which I don't), but sometimes say damn or ****, does that mean I have self respect, or not?

No, I do not live under a rock. Perhaps I live in a place that has greater respect for themselves than where you live. I find that language offensive, and I insist that people do not use that language in front of me. Never had a complaint about it my insistence either. Self respecting people do not debase themselves in that manner, although with what some people here post, I can see how you may see otherwise.

It's not just a word. It is a statement of what you think about yourself. If you choose to listen to those words, then you do that, but do not inflict it on me. There are laws against obscenities, and they ought to be enforced vigorously.

I adamantly believe the laws pertaining to vulgarity should be more vigorously enforced. When you enforce the small stuff, the bigger stuff happens less.

ETA: DD told me she sometimes curses when she's with her friends. I don't condone her cursing when she's with her friends but I do understand that it will happen. I told her that she better never curse in front of me or other any adults or there will be hell to pay. (irony?) lol

What if your local grocery store started carrying say adult toys and videos showing how to properly use them blatantly displayed with the sugar cereal? Would you still think that okay?

If it was just me shopping, then no, I wouldn't have a problem. If I had kids, first of all they wouldn't be shopping alone, and I certainly wouldn't let the store babysit. Secondly, I would know which aisles to take them down and which aisles to avoid. Last, if they did come across something I found questionable, I'd use it as a teachable moment to teach them what is and isn't appropriate behavior/language in our home.


But as I said, different strokes for different folks.

Anyone else noticed on the shows where they "bleep" out the cuss words, that it seems like they are bleeping out less and less of the word?...to such an extent that there is no doubt what they said.

Why?

I've heard MF bleeped on reality shows where I think the only thing that was bleeped was the "uh" in the second word.

If there are any TV execs that read this board...we really don't want to hear this language. Must you always sink to the lowest common denominator?

We don't watch shows/movies like that at all, if one comes on we change it. Personally, I don't care what other people watch or the language they use. But I do know that the language people use at work/socially has an impact on them, rather we want to admit it or not, rather we think it's fair or not.

I'd be curious to know how you KNOW this. I swear like a sailor, not around children or my parents and not in the workplace unless I hear others do it first so I know it is allowed. I still consider myself a well rounded person with an above average IQ. I don't think my language has an impact on myself at all. They are just words.
