Barefoot at Breakfast?

I know my teenage daughter thinks it is appropriate to go to school in her lounge pants...

think this is the thing to do...she has gone to school in duck pants, disney pants, etc. etc.

this is all acceptable with a regular shirt.not a pj top...

think over the last 2 years it has become acceptable ans so think it has spilled over into every other frame of life.
Recently, I have noticed that the lounge attire is not good anymore

so maybe there is a trend swing here..
who knows. next year

we can all be getting coffee in tuxes and evening gowns :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

***Also, I had two friends that we went on vacation with and they lived in their bikinis. We went to lots of places to eat and they would sit indoors in their bathing suits. When we got back both of them had horrible skin infections and one of them was in the hospital for a couple of weeks because her infection was spread through her legs and they had to get it out (without getting graphic). I never got it and both of their doctor's think they got it from sitting in so many places with just their skin rubbing on the seat. Maybe they should've worn pj pants ;). Seriously, being comfortable could always lead to more serious consequences.

Eeeeeyehhh, Ick, ick, ick!!! I have heard alot of stories about the gross kinds of germs that are found on the seats of fast food restaurants. Since I am not in bikini shape I do keep myself significantly covered up and now will rarely even wear shorts (I wear capris) when i know I will be sitting on any public surface. Now I have a real reason too.

Actually that skin infection sounds like a common one found in public hot tubs. Just another reason I'm glad the Poly doesn't have a hot tub!

I fine the way people dress is changing, and not for the better. I'm all for comfort, but standards are deteriorating. Not that long ago, girls had to wear skirts to school. Slacks were allowed on dress-down days, perhaps 2 or 3 times a year. Suits and dresses were the standard attire on airplanes. A gentleman always took off his hat when inside, and when a funeral procession passed. People dressed up for weddings. These things were done for respect for other people, and it seems people respected themselves more as well.
Now it seems people don't respect others. We have become a ruder society, with me-first values. People are dispensing with common courtesies, and I find that a sad commentary on our times. I'm not saying we should go back to hoop skirts, and a genteel lifestyle, but it sure would be nice if people thought more of others and not so much of themselves.

A friend of mine works in Concierge at WDW and I asked him about the welcome letter they give their guests. It clearly states "when visiting the lounge, may we recommend shoes and cover ups be worn".

It is not only for health and cleanliness, but for safety. Yes, they vaccuum every day, but there could be staples, rocks, glass, etc in the carpet. Everyone walks around with shoes during the day and who knows what could be stuck to the bottoms. Shoes or slippers should be worn.

Now as far as pajamas, those are acceptable in my book, as long as they are not too revealing or inappropriate. I wouldn't go right out of bed; I would brush my teeth and wake up a little bit first. I personally wouldn't hang out in the lounge either. I would get the food and take it back to my room.

The people in pajamas aren't hurting anyone. We should be more worried about the parents screaming and beating their children in public than having to look at adults in pajamas...just my two cents!

I used to wear pajama pants to school all the time, but they were not usually the ones I slept in. My roommate and I would get up and do our hair and makeup, and put on a different pair of pj pants for the day...

Of course if it did, someone would hold a gun to your head to use it.

I wouldn't even flinch about someone wearing robe, lounge pants to concierge. Everyone in my opinion should wear shoes. SPEEDOS should be outlawed!!! EWWWWWWW. As long as you are covered appropriately you are fine in concierge with me. :thumbsup2 And I will be staying at Poly concierge in a couple of months and I promise I won't be offened. Sorry I can't promise for all the other stuffed shirts on here! :thumbsup2 :coffee:

This morning I was so tired I would have wanted to drop my son off in my pjs however I thought of all of the DIS posters out there watching me so I pulled on jeans and a tneck (although no bra, ick) along with a heavy winter jacket covering it all up. I brushed my hair and was off. I felt so good about being half dressed that I even stopped at the bank. I hope the makeup police weren't watching!

No but there have been cases of the infection being transferred via swimming pools. Friends went on a carnival cruise. One friend went in the hot tub, the other didn't like public hot tubs so stayed in the pool. Both came down with trich something or another. The ship's doctor said that if the one came right from the hot tub and into the pool near the other friend then that is probably how both got it. So I am happy there is NO hot tub at the Poly! I'll just continue to use our own.

I think it is a Southern thing, or maybe a tourist area thing? I live in a Virginia Beach and it is not uncommon to see people in their pajamas at 7-11 the grocery store etc. I don't do it, but I have seen enough of it that it no longer grabs my attention. :cool1:
Hello from a Virgingian!! :wave2: (followed DH to his job here in GA, but a true-blue Virginian for life)
I have to admit that people in VAB are pretty laid back! I wear my sandles nearly all year round here in GA and get lots of looks. I think people here think I'm a hippie unless they know me. I love the beach culture-- arts, ease, playtime, etc. It can't be beat! I would have never, ever gone anywhere in public without being fully dressed, as long as flip flops count as foot wear! Hampton Roads is a unique place and nothing like the rest of VA.

Here's my beef with GA-- people smoke in public!! Every gas station is foggy because everyone goes in with their cigs and there's no ventilation. That's gross to me! I've never seen bare feet in Chesapeake but have seen it daily in GA. Even in grocery stores. Bleh!!

As for eating with someone in bare feet, how gross. I would have left. That is way too gross. That's what room service is for! And Disney is the place to pull out the best clothes because it is special. Sometimes, I even have my toes covered while I'm there! :goodvibes:

I can tell you without a doubt that is not a Georgia or a Southern thing. I have lived in Georgia all my life and never have I seen people walking around stores or restaurants without shoes on. As far as your beef with Georgia-people smoking in public, that happens everywhere. You can't smoke in most buildings. That's happening all over the country, not just Georgia. You will find people everywhere do things that are not what most feel is acceptable behavior but we should be careful not to generalize that behavior as being typical of a certain part of the country or a particular state.

yeah the bare foot at break fast is kinda eww, but i must admit I have walked down to the pool in my bare feet. :rolleyes2 and on the pj issue I agree with the person who said as long as your covered fine with me. but i think you shouldnt go down to get breakfast and sit in the lounge in your pjs unless your like 5, but running down grabbing a bagel and coffee and heading back to your room is ok. :)

Okay I didn't read all the posts so I am sorry if I a repeating something. But really people- you are offended because their pajamas are tacky? You have got to be kidding me!!! Now of course if something is hanging out or way too sheer I can understand, but I don't care if your pants have ducks, mickey mouse, or spongebob on them. I personally find that non offensive while some of the outfits I have seen in the parks look downright painful! Women and men who have shorts on that are so tight you can see their hoo hoos- that's tacky!!! Still- to each their own and I am not offended. Grossed out maybe, but not offended. As far as no shoes- well I love to go barefoot. Of course I would wear shoes if I was in a store or food place but I do love to be barefoot. So what I'm basically getting out is to each their own. Enjoy your trip and if you see something that you think is odd you'll have a great story to tell! princess:

that's strange-i mean it is okay..it reminds me of one time when i went to the gas station with my dad to put gas in my mom's car and i was in my pjs LOL

I didn't say that ALL people smoke in public. I said that people in GA smoke in public. There is a difference. And I meant IN PUBLIC BUILDINGS. I didn't state that clearly because I thought it would be obvious that I wasn't upset that someone would be outside smoking by a public tree or something. That would be ridiculous. There ARE people who smoke in public buildings. Either it's legal or people just do it anyway. I'm not from these parts, so I don't know which it is.

I wrote to the fellow Virginian that I had lived in VA my whole life and had never seen anyone in bare feet in stores like he/she had. In fact, I had seen that only in GA. Does that mean everyone in GA has bare feet in a store? Of course not. Just as I told her that not everyone in VA does either.

No one is cutting down your state. No one is cutting you down. This is my experience. I said I have seen it daily. I did not say that all Georgians do this every day. It is my experience and I stand by my report.

Also, read my post again. I never said that I saw someone in a GA restaurant with bare feet. I said grocery stores. When I mentioned that I would never eat with someone in bare feet, it was not in the paragraph about GA at all. This thread was about people at WDW with bare feet at the buffet. That paragraph was about WDW and clearly said so.

Have others been seeing more of this at the WDW resorts--people in food courts or restaurants in their PJs or barefeet? I don't know if it's officially against Disney policy or not? :confused3

I very often drive the kids to school in my jammies. They aren't revealing or anything. I wouldn't get out of the car, but once in a while, I'll go through McDonald's drive-thru to get an Egg McMuffin.

I couldn't care less if people are scandalized, but I just know one day the car will break down and I'll have to talk to the AAA guy in my jammies  .

A few years ago, one evening, we were at home but on our way to our trailer by the lake for the night. My daughter had her bath, put her pj's on and we left for the trailer. On the way there, 2 deer jumped out in front of the car. We struck and killed one. It happened in front of a restaurant, so we waited there for the police. Mind you, the pj's were modest, very much like a track suit, but we still felt bad, sitting in this restaurant. My husband went back to the car, and police, while we waited in the restaurant. Thankfully, it wasn't too busy, but a bit of an embarresment just the same. It took at least an hour and a quarter, before we continued on our way. So, lesson learned. Unexpected things happen.

and the moral of these posts is?

lol....25 years ago (when I was young and reckless), I used to go barefoot all the time ( not in stores, mind you) and drive around as such... even considered getting a license plate to that effect! now that I'm older and wiser ( yeah, right)! it hasn't crossed my mind in years - at least not until I read these posts...

as for the pj bottoms , I personally don't wear them out - I just feel funny but my daughter lived for 4 years away at college in her flannels and flip-flops - in Oswego NY in the dead of winter ( oh to be young)! .. and so did all her friends..my youngest son is away this year ( his first) and came home for winter break and gasp! went to his friend's houses and the stores in his flannels! I was very surprised as he didn't even own a pair before he left!

so I surmiss, it's a trend - just like bellbottoms, bubble blouses, tiedied tees , clogs and lord knows what else! it's not a certain area of the country fad - it's a fad - period. I'm not bothered by people in their flannels in Walmart - in a sit down restaurant, it would raise my eyebrows..

there are so many schools of thought here ... it's improper, it's unsanitary, they are paying $300 a night for a room, body parts are covered, what's the difference, and so on and so on.....that's why they are called opinions...

I do agreee with some of the previous posters on certain topics: Speedo's are a big NO in any eating establishment! , shoes of some sort should be worn in eatries, stores, etc - more for safety than anything else, and I for one am more offended by the way some people treat their children than how they dress....

enough said, that's my 2 cents ... I'll be in the "world" in a little more than 2 weeks and I now have a strange yearning for some "Mickey" pants to add to my wardrobe! ::yes::
