Barefoot at Breakfast?

When I was staying at the Boardwalk recently, I went an stood in line for breakfast in the Belle Vue Lounge and quickly noticed the man I was behind was in his pajamas. Bare feet, flannel pants, and a thin undershirt, a newspaper tucked under his arm....it was clearly not street wear. I felt kind of uncomfortable and was reminded of an old concierge thread where others related stories of people showing up in their pajamas and less (like robes). I guess now it's spilling out into regular counter service areas of the hotel? Is this common? :confused3 What's next...a family of five in their PJs strolling in for breakfast at Spoodles or to see the Princesses at Norway? ;)

People never fail to amaze me. A few of the moms of my son's fellow kindergarteners drop off their kids wearing, well, whatever. Some wear PJ bottoms and fuzzy slippers. I was treated one morning by one whose PJ bottoms were just sheer enough to see that she wasn't wearing anything underneath. :earseek: While it was certainly a treat for me, it was clearly not appropriate and I wish she'd dressed differently.

I think it is a Southern thing, or maybe a tourist area thing? I live in a Virginia Beach and it is not uncommon to see people in their pajamas at 7-11 the grocery store etc. I don't do it, but I have seen enough of it that it no longer grabs my attention. :cool1:

I teach school and we had a mom show up in the attire you mentioned, with her hair wrapped in a towel!! She walked her child through the building back to where his classroom was...
I think it is unsanitary and gross, not to mention bad manners to be in a public place that serves food without shoes on.

It's not a Southern thing. It's a lack of class thing.

Aw ... give the moms a break. For many SAHMs KIndergarten is the first time they need to get their kids up and out the door by a certain time. My DD has to be at school at 7:40 AM, which was the crack of dawn for both of us. At least the kids are dressed and at school. Who cares how the moms are dressed for the ride over?

As for the OP. I agree that the man probably should have had more clothes on for his little breakfast jaunt. Going out to pick up breakfast (when you are in public) is different than dropping off your kids from the nominal privacy of your car.

Ding, Ding - we have a winner!!

Anyone with an ounce of class would NEVER do this - period.

I'm a high school teacher and according to the dress code, pajama pants are not allowed but I see them everyday. Sometimes they're dark and fleecy so they're more like workout pants, which don't bug me at all, but I've seen flannel, I've seen stripes, I've even seen the little rubber duck or puppy patterned ones! It's pretty much girls who do it and they usually wear them with a sweatshirt if outside or with a little teeny tank top if inside. Not appropriate for school at all. And of course this spills out elsewhere. I was behind three girls at Burger King and they were all wearing pajama pants (the cute little patterned ones), sneakers and sweatshirts, but of course also had full jewelry, nails and Coach purses. I contemplated that while I waited for my chicken sandwich. So, I'm not surprised to hear of it in WDW, though I don't really like it. The barefeet would have grossed me out a lot more, though. He could pick up some nasty little conditions like that, not to mention stepping on something! Don't get it.

Agree with Matt..... :cool1:

I live in the South, but not from the South.

It is NOT a Southern thing and is absolutely totally CLASSLESS !

In the South, a true southern sophisticate won't even go out without makeup and their hair done. Walking in public dressed like that man not acceptable.

And no excuses for Mom's either, sorry. I am one, with several kids at three schools, one who has special needs and has to be driven.....my mornings are overwhelming. When I leave I may not be dressed up, but I am dressed and clean and presentable.

Just to mention--after he got his food, he sat at a table and had breakfast there at Belle Vue. I guess it didn't bother him to be in pajamas with others around?

I've never seen people in PJs at 7-11 or the supermarket! Wow :rotfl:

That is just not acceptable. PJs are for the house/room. Why couldn't he just do what I do when I need to make a quick run out. Throw on sweats, flip flops, and a ball cap. Im dressed, but not "dressed" for the day. There is no reason for someone to be out in their pjs like that. I will admit, from time to time I will run to the end of my driveway to get the paper in my jammies, or to grab something from the car. But would never think of going out to eat in them. Just not right.

And yeah, I have seen a lot more people wearing jammie pants out in public. What are they thinking?

I've seen something like this in a concierge lounge--a man in a robe sitting around during cordials and dessert. I don't think he had on anything under the robe and I just kind of avoided him. This bothered me more than the pjs in the hotel breakfast area. I don't know if people are getting into clothes-free vacation mode out of unawareness or if they are having fun disregarding real clothes.

It was a treat for you to see a little girl through her sheer clothing???

I interpreted Cleve as seeing a mom with sheer pajamas--and it was a treat for him to see the mom in sheer pants ;)

It would certainly seem the case. We just recently moved from the North to the south in Louisiana and never had I EVER seen anyone wearing PJ's and character slippers like they just rolled out of bed until we moved here. They'll shop Walmart, grocery store whatever and be in this garb. We attend a private school so they don't show up in Pj's etc although on one occasion I did see a prominent Dr's wife loading up here kids as we were coming out of our neighborhood and she had a robe on but she doesn't get out of the car, just drops them off in carline. I wouldn't even think of going out like that either. I don't believe in dressing up for dropping kids off at school but you can brush your teeth, rinse off your face, put a hat on and normal clothes and go out the door. If you haven't the energy to change into normal clothes, that is just PLAIN being lazy, not because they haven't the time to do it. I'm a fulltime sahm and it doesn't take that long to put on normal clothes and look presentable. JMHO............... :sunny:

Anyone with class would never regionalize it. Rude people and people without class live everywhere.

If the poster would have read his post, they would have realized that he was talking in a jokingly manner about seeing one of the mothers in sheer PJ's being a treat for him. Now, I'm not sure if he is married how his wife would feel about him seeing it as a treat, LOL :rotfl: but I think he was meaning a mother I agree.

I wonder how much the concierge/ breakfast staff sees of people in pajamas or other stuff like robes or bathing suits?

Dropping kids off in PJs is kind of similar to grabbing breakfast items to go for the kids while in PJs...
