Belmont - Between the commercials and hundreds of websites, Bare Minerals make-up is all the talk. Bare Minerals, sold under the Bare Escentuals line, is all natural, chemical-free make-up that's supposed to be so pure you can sleep in it.
Three of my co-workers, Beth, Eddie and Mi, helped me test it out. The three women have diverse skin tones and unique skin issues. Beth wanted help covering up the redness in her skin. Eddie wanted to even-out her skin tone. Mi wanted help with spotty skin and acne.
We found Bare Minerals at a local salon, Belle Montage in Belmont. The salon offers free consultations and we got help picking out the right color and advice on how to apply it.
The Bare Minerals foundation goes on with a natural brush. It's a powder and we were told to remember to swirl, tap, and buff. You pour the powder into the cap, swirl it with your brush, tap off the excess, and then buff it onto your skin in a downward circular motion. We're told buffing it down helps so the powder doesn't show on your facial hairs.
All three women really liked the feel of it on their face. They said it was very light and they were impressed that it covered as well as a liquid foundation. They tried it for a couple weeks and reported back to me.
They're biggest complaint was that it was messy and got on their counter tops. I was told by viewers who loved Bare Minerals that you have to make sure you don't have too much on your brush. They thought that would cut-down on the mess.
None of the women broke out from Bare Minerals, even after sleeping in it. Eddie and Beth had mixed reviews. Eddie thought the color that was chosen for her was too greyish. But she liked how light it felt. Beth liked it, but not the messiness. They said they wanted to give it more time before deciding if they'd switch from their old make-up regimen. Mi on the other hand says she's going back to her old make-up.
Belle Montage sells the Bare Minerals foundation for $26.50. The brush we were told we needed sells for $23.25. A separate concealer and sheer powder for shine control are recommended, which the ladies said they needed. Those would cost extra, which was a complaint from Beth as far as the added cost.
We found there are a lot of websites that sell Bare Minerals make-up, and there are plenty of deals out there. A store in Muskegon also sells it, Natural Radiance Aesthetics on Harvey Street.
I've received dozens of emails from women about Bare Minerals. About 90% of the women who emailed me LOVE it. They say it never gives them breakouts, and they love how natural it looks. The few who didn't like it said it was too expensive for everything you need, and that it didn't look good in natural light.
Mixed reviews on Bare Minerals. It could be something you might want to try for yourself.
