Bare Mineral Users? Make-up $$/advice!?

So, I went to Ulta today. I got the Bare Minerals starter kit and a blush. Eye stuff and lips I don't mind going cheap on, plus just that ran me $80!:scared1: I can't wait till tomorrow to try it all WITH the Monistat.

My DH went with me and saw they had a salon there and talked me into getting my hair colored so I will be back there tomorrow. I had highlites for about 15 years but stopped (again, felt the money was better spent on the kids) but I did feel so much more confident when I was put together, so I'm going for it. I figure it is my gift to myself, I have lost 22 pounds since New Years. By tomorrow afternoon I will feel like a whole new me.

OK, I feel I should be banished from the BB, but I got the Bare Minerals, the monistat, and today got my hair highlited. I feel amazing! I never thught I'd spend money reading the BB, but feel so grat about it. I was out all morning shopping, went and got my hair done, had dinner, went and played tennis with my hubby and the make up is still on and looks pretty darn good.

Anyway, thanks for the info from all of you. I spent $200 but feel like a $1,000,000!

Congratulations on the weightloss and the new you. Amazing what a little bit of change can do to your confidence level. :thumbsup2

I got this tip on a makeup board - I don't know which one, but I think it was started by a DIS Board member. Anyway, to get that perfect "air-brushed" look using BM - tap, swirl, then mist (very lightly) with water and apply until the brush is dry. You may have to experiment with how many sqirts of water is enough "mist" I just use a very small bottle with a sqirter top that I got at Target in travel bins and it works great. It will give you an air-brushed, dewey look. I love it & would not go back.

Thats so interesting! I didn't know that--i'll have to try that. Thanks!

So you are misting with water on the brush once the powder is on or on your face? :confused3

Once the powder is on the brush, mist the brush (& powder), then apply the powder to your face until the brush is dry. Repeat :yay: until you have applied all of your makeup. I do not do this with the Mineral Veil, only the foundation. I also blend my foundation down my neck & do not do this for that. When you apply it this way, not only does it look less powdery, but you get better coverage with the same amount of foundation. I think it would look too heavy on your neck. Either way, you can control how much coverage you get, by controling how much of the foundation you use, and amount of mist that you apply to the brush.

Try it - it gives a totally different look, and everyone that I suggested it to loves it that way. You will have to experiment with how much to mist the brush, as too much looks, well, icky (try it & see :scared:) and not enough and you don't get any added effect.

and since this is the budget board - another tip learned from the makeup ladies - a great CHEAP foundation primer

Monistat ANTI-CHAFING powder/gel

This is NOT the stuff used for a yeast infection - but is found next to it at the store. If you need a "real" reason to buy it - it works great if your thighs rub and chafe with a long day's walking at WDW.

the active ingredient is dimethicone - the same as in the expensive foundation primers.

Smashbox photofinish primer- $36 for 1 ounce
Monistat - $6 for 1.5 ounces

you do the math :rotfl:

OMG I'm sooo excited to read this! I just started using the Smashbox primer and while I LOVE it, I HATE the price. I'm getting down to the end of my first bottle but will happily try the Monistat. Not to mention, a while ago I managed to get a free tube courtesy of the freebie thread! Thanks for the tip!

What is the purpose of the primer/monistat??? Does it keep your foundation set for longer wear or just better coverage for the mineral makeups???
