Okay, so even though we're not sailing until next year, it's never too early to start collecting info.

When we did this cruise in 2007, we used a wonderful service called Angie's Taxis. Well I was sorry to see they are no longer in existence.

Anyone who sailed from Barcelona and stayed some pre-cruise nights, what do you suggest as the best company for transportation from the airport to hotel and hotel to port.

Hopefully, unlike our last trip there, airport employees won't be on strike again! That was a disaster.

Thanks.

Local taxis, the yellow ones, plentiful and controlled. When we have pre booked it's gone wrong, when we turned up at the airport and got an on demand one no issue. Do not pre book.

Hotel

Book hotel jazz, great hotel a block from Placa Cataluna where HOHO starts and the Hard Rock and La Rambala is. Has a roof top pool with views and a quick taxi to port. On a few underground lines and on the airport bus route.

Thanks for the info about the taxis.

We are going back to the apartments we had in 2007 -- Hispanos 7 Suiza. The rate was unbeatable and it was a 2-bedroom apartment with a kitchen and views of La Sagrada.

Been three times and stayed up to a week each time, and I found on demand better than pre booked transfers, we used the yellow ones many times, including then the pre booked didn't turn up. Cheaper and plenty of supply, all regulated.

Thanks. Angie's Taxi were lovely people and included a free city tour.
Any suggestions for restaurants? When we were there in August 2007, they were on "holiday" and the only place (other than the hotel) to eat was McDonald's across the street LOL.

I remember Angie's Taxis. We used them in 2006 and 2007. The owners were lovely people. When we went back in 2011 they were no longer in business. We will be in Barcelona again in about 2 weeks. Our flight arrives at 7:30 am and our apartment won't be ready. We booked a half day Monserrat tour with Barcelona Day Tours. They will pick us up from the airport, take us on the tour and then transport us to our apartment that afternoon. We used them in 2014 at the end of our EBTA for a half day tour. They picked us up at the ship took us on tour and then dropped us at our hotel. Very nice day.

If you are looking at apartment style hotels - We have stayed at Casp 74. This year we are trying Apartments 64. Casp 74's 3 bedroom unit was already booked and a 3 bedroom was available at Apartments 64.

For traditional Cataluna food, head to the Gothic area, go off La Rambala as they tend to be tourist rip offs, and just go into small squares like this and choose what looks best.

The two times I've stayed in Barcelona before my WBTA cruises I've taken the airport Aerobus from the airport to Placa Catalunya. The bus was very inexpensive and makes only two stops one at Placa Espanya and the other at Placa Catalunya which is near La Rambla street and only about a mile to my hotel. As far as transport from your hotel to the cruise terminal both times someone from the Disboard Cruise Meets Group set-up bus transportation which was very inexpensive. I only had to walk four blocks from my hotel to the hotel the group was meeting at for the bus pick-up.

Thanks for this -- fantastic information! Do they transport your luggage and all? That would be a great way to kill time until the apartment is ready.

I'll have to keep an eye out for this!

Yes, they do. They keep it secured with the vehicle. We have found that by staying active on arrival day helps us avoid jet lag. I would much rather be out staying active instead waiting around for our hotel/apartment to be ready.

One of my favorite memories is my daughter on the day we arrived to Barcelona. We were able to check in at about Noon, and everyone was so tempted to lay down. I kept insisting we get out the door and keep walking. She was dragging as we walked down La Ramblas and was trying to be a good sport, and then we got to Citadel (sp?) Park, and she stood bolt upright and her eyes got huge -- and she whipped out her camera and was in her zone. We had a great three hours around the neighborhood and area and ate at a Tapas bar and realized that night that only one day was a mistake. So I am so happy to be going back and hope to have at least 5 days. I hope that is enough -- but we did Montserrat on the excursion between sailings, so I think we should be okay with five full days.

Barcelona is a fantastic city. We spent about a week there before a Med cruise in 2011. We've been back a number of times with TA cruises and have always made a point to spend a couple of days post cruise. This year we are spending a few days pre-cruise. We are planning to so a few things we haven't done before like a segway tour and few old favorites... my soccer loving husband and girls who are big Barca fans insist we always visit Camp Nou or at least the shop so they can purchase even more gear. LOL
