Does anybody have any ideas on transferring from the port to the airport? We will be leaving the ship 1 day early in Barcelona, (23April), and need transportation to the airport. Thank you in advance

From my reading, cabs are about 30 Euros per cab. There is public transportation available, but I couldn't identify a direct route--it would involve transfers. Hopefully someone with real life experience can give you a more complete answer. For those of use going on 4/24, DCL transfers are $30 per person.

30 Euros = $41. Vs $60 w/DCL transfer (2 people).

Most cabs can fit 3 people, some 4. Even if you need two cabs for four people, you still come out ahead.

The cab ride to teh airport from the port will be a MINIMUM of €30 (I would guess it is more likely to be around €45). That said if you have 4 in the cab - this is still only around €11 per person. Of course you need to consider the amount of luggage too - 4 plus lots of luggage would need one of the larger people mover types of cab.

You could also try booking a private transfer with a local cab firm. You could do this on arrival before you check onto the ship. Private transfers are usually a lot cheaper.

There is public transport. You would need to get from the port to Sants station. A cab there is about €10-€15. The train then goes directly to the airport and costs about €2.60 per person.

Hope some of that helps......

Thank you very much. I am not clear on 1 thing. Do you mean hire a private service prior to leaving port canaveral?

This is correct and from my personal experience of the port and disembarking the cruise, is accurate. Prices are correct and subject to luggage.

It takes 45 minutes to get from Port to Airport, there actually not that far apart, but traffic isn't good, Weekends are better but if you disembark on a normal weekday it can take longer if you hit the rush our, its a busy city.

Port to Airport isn't practicable by public transport with luggage, it just isn't an option whilst you could walk it without luggage, with it and in the heat and over bridges etc, its not doable.

Thanks for asking the question. My husband and I are doing the same thing. I was beginning to think we were the only ones.

You will see from this the Magic docks on a long pier, which is accessible from bridges. There is one long and winding road. Now its walking distance from the Marina and La Rambala, but with cruise luggage and the heat, you would not do it on public transport at all.

There are plentiful cabs outside the cruise terminal, its a bit like a warehouse, not a lot there, but you just walk off the ship at deck 2, and through the terminal and out and you will see taxis, even on a non disembarkation day as plenty of people would take one to La Rambla etc.

Its a good 45 mns to the airport on the motorways.

Train is good to/from the city centre and there are bus links but not form the port.

Now that is just plain silly. You'd think a European city could schedule a few buses on a cruise day. Especially in Barcelona, where on the Ramblas there's a subway stop seemingly every 50 feet.

Maybe the cabbies' union lobbied against the buses?

The site below says it's €3 per person BUT you can buy a T10 ticket for €7.85, allows for 10 one-way trips AND can be shared amongst your party.

So if it's only two people traveling one-way, it's not a deal (€7.85 vs €6), but if you get 3 or more people, the T10 is cheaper.

Plus the cab fare from the port to Sants, of course.

Please note the section about seating and luggage space on the train.

Edit: Note also that if your flight leaves from Terminal 1 (very likely; all the major US airlines do) you will have to take a shuttle bus from the train station stop at Terminal 2 to Terminal 1.

Starting to sound like a lot of self-luggage handling (taxi, train, shuttle bus). Might be easier to take a taxi the whole way.

Kay,

Thank you very much! We hate to leave a day early but it just has to be done.

In case anyone is searching. . .

Aer Lingus flies out of Terminal2B according to these sites.

Taxi ride from Port to Airport T2B is 15.3 miles and approx. 20 -25 Euros. 1 additional Euro for each oversized bag. (wondering if these are old prices maybe?)

I am still wondering where on the pier/at the Port the taxis will be waiting??

In other words, how far do I need to lug my huge/heavy bag (30in rolling duffle) and my sure to be very heavy carry on?:rotfl:

Sure would like to pay less then $60 American Dollars and move at my own pace, not Disney's.

Disney transport is always an option but I am still holding out if this seems feasible.

More personal experiences to share anyone?

Are you also booked on the 10:45a Aer Lingus? We are in the same boat (:rotfl:) about getting to the airport. I'm not sure if we should pre-arrange a taxi. What time were you thinking of leaving the ship to head to the airport? I guess we could go with Disney but they seem more expensive and I'm not quite sure of the timing.

Yup, that's us. EBTA Our flight is Aer Lingus flight109 10:50am to Dublin arriving12:30, short hop then over the pond and onto JFK.

I am guessing being at the airport by 8am is plenty early so catching a taxi at 7:15 am should be fine (no rush hour traffic on a Sat. right)? Meaning outside at 7am I guess? Who knows what time Disney will have us hearded into one of the restaurants or wherever we need to wait and how far in advance they get us to the airport?

I'm just not sure!!! All I can think about is what a rotten early start/end to a fabulous two weeks! ugh!

Does sound like taxi's will be waiting and we will be in Port the day before if it looks like we will have a long walk we should be able to figure it out the day before and call a local company right? :confused3 um, yeah, with my non- existant Catalan language skills that is! :rotfl:

Sounds like the big issue is getting dropped off at the correct terminal.

What times are you thinking? We are just a couple, 2 people. Not sure how sharing goes with lots of bags tho? Any thoughts?

I'm still trying to figure this out. I do not think traffic will be a problem and I think it will be a quick trip. What I'm not sure of is if there will be a GIGANTIC line for taxi's and how long of a wait that may equal. We may have a slight advantage of being designated to terminal 2B - most US & UK flights depart from the new Terminal 1. Originally I was hoping to leave the boat around 8 BUT I know if I run into an issue at airport security that would be a problem. I may be booking an excursion with a private company in Barcelona and I will ask them for a quote on an airport transfer. I THINK having a ride waiting for you will solve a big aprt of the time crunch/worry issue. I think I'll also ask on our cruise thread what times and how people are getting to the airport. I think a lot of them are on the same flight ( some the following week but same flight time ). If I get any good info I'll pass it on!!

Well, we are back and here is how it played out.

Getting off the ship was way to smooth and fast (NO! I don't want to leave).

There were multiple taxis waiting for us and someone directing us straight to them. We are party of two adults and ended up in a mini van alone.

We left way to early and got to the airport way to early. Ended up paying taxi driver 40euros as his meter said 25 something when we arrived directly in front of the correct terminal and door to check in for our Aer Lingus flight. and then he recalculated it and asked us for 36Euros so my DH just gave him 40. Quite sure we overpayed but at that point who really cared right?

So if you do the math, $60 American dollars to Disney for their transport or 40 Euros to the Barcelona taxi driver? About the same amount but I was happy to put some money into a locals pocket I guess.

alls well that ends well and it certainly was a smooth quick way to get to the airport.

Different subject but we also used the local bus system to get into Barcelona (near the Christopher Columbus monument where the HOHO buses pick up) for 3 Euros round trip per person. Super cheap and easy. Bus came right to terminal. No wait in am. Brief 10 min wait at end of our day. We stayed in Port until around 7pm, buses ran until 11pm that evening.
