Hello! Just wondering if anyone has been to Bridgetown, Barbados before? We might have an opportunity to vacation there, and I was just wanting some input. What did you do? Where did you stay, etc. Any advice good or bad would be appreciated. Thanks. Jenn :)

I love, love, love Barbados! I've been there twice while on a cruise. I would really like to go for an entire week (or two), but it's quite pricey.

Both times we were there, we went out on a luxury catamaran called the Silver Moon. We snorkeled at ship wrecks, and also got to snorkel (and touch) giant sea turtles. All of that was topped off by an excellent lunch served onboard. I've been on a few cruises, and a lot of excursions, and this is hands-down the best I've experience. Here's their website: http://silvermoonbarbados.com/

Have a wonderful time! Can I stow-a-way in your suitcase? ;)

Oh, I meant to add: We went on the catamaran that they only take 12 guests on (although it holds 60 normally). It's a big boat, and with so few people, you almost feel like you and your family have it all to yourselves. They normally book up pretty early, because they are popular with cruise ship passengers.

I've stayed on Barbados several times. Love it there.

I don't think you'd want to stay "in Bridgetown" though. That's basically a city with no beach and I don't really remember seeing any hotels "in Bridgetown".

Things to know about Barbados. The west side of the island is on the Caribbean Sea. It's calm and green and beautiful. The east side is on the Atlantic. It's gray, with huge surf ( they hold international surfing contests in Bathsheba ) rocky beaches and more isolated.

You can get around the whole island on the #11 bus, cheaply. We've been from Bathsheba to Holetown, using public transportation.

On Friday, there is a fish fry at Oystens. A good part of the island shows up for music and fish fry. Lots of local crafts and cheap beer. Good times.

St Lawerence Gap is a fun place to pub hop.

I usually stay in Christ Church. It's on the southwest coast of the island and beautiful and friendly. The further up west coast you go the more expensive it can be ( think of Tiger Wood's honeymoon )

Hope this helps

We went on our honeymoon and stayed at Mango Bay (an all-inclusive). That was over 13 years ago, and then we were back while on a cruise for our 10th Anniversary. We love Barbados!

Here are just some things to do:

  • Snorkling
  • Rent a wave runner
  • Rent a Moke and take a drive around the island
  • Take a 4X4 tour
  • Stop by the Malibu Rum distillery (they have a private beach)
  • Stop by the Mount Gay Rum distillery
  • Tour Harrison's Cave
  • Tour Andromeda Botanical Gardens
  • Go on the Jolly Roger party ship (This is the only one we didn't get a chance to do)

Of all the islands we've been to, Barbados is my favorite!

Wow, thanks for the quick responses ladies. Airplane would take us into Bridgetown, then how do you get to Christ Church? Keep the great advice coming!! :) I'm off to research! :goodvibes

You can go online and have a guide sent to you. It does look beautiful and hope to vacation there one day!
